Emma Raducanu is ranked 30th in the WTA rankings and is competing in Ningbo for the first time. Raducanu was initially granted a wild card in the tournament, but because of enough withdrawals, her ranking was high enough to warrant a main draw spot and the wild card has since been offered to another player.

Raducanu is coming off a disappointing Asian swing, which has seen lost a couple of matches in which she held multiple match points. Last week, the Briton was forced to retire because of illness in stifling, humid conditions in her match against Ann Li. Raducanu has won two of her past six matches. In total, she has won 28 and lost 21 matches in 2025.

Zhu Lin is another player who has been blighted by injuries in the last couple of years. Now 31, Zhu has been granted a wild card in Ningbo where she will make her third appearance. She has competed in this event twice, the last of which was over a decade ago.

Zhu has compiled 19 wins and 15 losses in 2025, mostly winning on the ITF Tour. She was a runner-up at the Guiyang ITF in her home country back in September and started the swing with a great win over Moyuka Uchijima. Since then, she has lost to Mirra Andreeva in Beijing and Maya Joint in Wuhan.
