Andreeva has had a fantastic 2025 season winning 40 matches and losing only 15 times. She has captured two prestigious WTA 1000s in Dubai and Indian Wells, beating the likes of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. That early season has since faded with Andreeva failing to make the quarterfinals in each of her last four tournaments on hard courts. Zhu Lin won her opening match, beating Emma Raducanu in three sets. The Chinese wild card lost the first set 6-3 in 55 minutes, but she recovered to win the second set 6-4. Lin was the better player in the third set where she broke Raducanu’s serve three times to wrap up a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win in two hours and 26 minutes.
In the victory, Lin hit 6 aces and 4 double faults. She landed 63% of first serves in play and won 59% of first serve points (30/51). Lin won 53% of second serve points (16/30) and saved two of eight break points. This was her first victory in this tournament since 2014 when she last played in it.
