Marie Bouzkova will play Paula Badosa in the final of the 2024 Citi Open in Washington, D.C. The match is scheduled for Sunday, August 4, 2024. Here’s our Marie Bouzkova vs Paula Badosa prediction. This article will also feature a Marie Bouzkova vs Paula Badosa pick.

Marie Bouzkova vs Paula Badosa Preview

World No. 43 Marie Bouzkova scored the upset of the 2024 Citi Open Washington. She defeated World No. 3 and top seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in almost two and a half hours. In the victory, Bouzkova tallied eight aces to two double faults. She landed 66% of first serves.

Bouzkova won 73% of first-serve points (37/51) and 42% of second-serve points (11/26). The Czech converted five of 11 break points on the Sabalenka serve while saving an astonishing eight of 12 break points on her own serve. It will be Bouzkova’s second WTA final of the season (lost to Camila Osorio in Bogota).

Paula Badosa, meanwhile, ended the great run of American World No. 49 Caroline Dolehide under sweltering conditions on Saturday to reach her first WTA final in two years. She won 6-3, 6-3 to continue her recent renaissance.

Badosa spent just an hour and 23 minutes hammering three aces to six double faults. She landed 53% of first serves and won 89% of first-serve points (24/27). Badosa won 58% of second-serve points (14/24) and converted three of five break points. The Spaniard also saved all three break points she faced on her own serve.

Marie Bouzkova vs Paula Badosa Head-To-Head

• At WTA level, Badosa leads Bouzkova 1-0 in their head-to-head, winning their match at the 2022 Miami Open in straight sets.

Marie Bouzkova vs Paula Badosa Prediction

At this time last year, Badosa was not playing tennis after sustaining a stress fracture on her back while playing on the European clay. Her resurgence has been taking shape this summer. Badosa’s decision to skip the Olympics and chase WTA points has been justified. She is set for an imminent return into the Top 40 and can push for a seeding spot at the US Open in either Toronto or Cincinnati in the next two weeks.

Bouzkova is coming off one of the best wins of her career, but I wouldn’t read too much into a result against an off-color Sabalenka, who is only just returning from a shoulder injury. Badosa has been positive, confident, and very creative from the baseline. The Czech’s record in final matches is also wanting, losing in six of her seven WTA championships matches. I’ll lean towards the former World No. 2 here.

Nur Said's Pick: Paula Badosa in three sets
