Luciano Darderi is the second seed in Umag, competing in his second appearance at the event. Last year, he was knocked out in the last 16, but has improved just 12 months later to make the final. He is the third Italian in the last five years to reach the title match in this tournament. Jannik Sinner won it in 2022, and Lorenzo Musetti was the beaten finalist last year in an epic final against Cerundolo.

Darderi has built an eight-match winning streak which started this past week in Bastad, where he won his second title of the season and keeping his perfect record in Tour-level finals. The 23-year-old carried that form to Umag, opening with a clinical 7-5, 6-0 win over Tseng. In the quarterfinal, he weathered a storm in a chaotic three-setter against teenager Dino Prizmic. Darderi then secured his spot in the final with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Ugo Carabelli, taking an hour and 45 minutes for the victory. He hit 20 winners to 15 unforced errors in the match. Darderi accounted for four aces in the match and landed 55% of first serves in play. He won 82% of first serve points (31/38) and saved two break points that he faced. Darderi was a champion in Marrakech earlier this season and can bag his fourth career title in Umag on Saturday.

Darderi will face Carlos Taberner, who became the first Spaniard to reach the Umag final since Carlos Alcaraz in 2022. This will be his first ATP Tour final. Taberner is a former World No. 85 and a nine-time champion on the Challenger Tour, winning all those titles on clay courts. 

The 27-year-old started the week with a tricky 6-4, 7-6 win against Herbert, and his level gradually got better. He pulled off one of the great upsets of the tournament by taking out defending champion Francisco Cerundolo 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 in the last 16 in three hours and 22 minutes. He would not drop another set in his next two outings. First, he beat Jesper De Jong 7-5, 6-3 and delivered his best result in the semis where he crushed Damir Dzumhur 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and 36 minutes.
