Top seed Jannik Sinner will face the Canadian World No. 36 Gabriel Diallo in the third round of the 2025 Cincinnati Open. The match is scheduled for Monday, August 11. Here’s our Jannik Sinner vs Gabriel Diallo prediction. This preview will also include a Jannik Sinner vs Gabriel Diallo pick.
Jannik Sinner vs Gabriel Diallo Preview
Jannik Sinner is the top seed at the 2025 Cincinnati Open. The Italian kicked off his title defense with one of his quickest wins of his career, lasting just 59 minutes on the court in dismissing Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan 6-1, 6-1. This was Sinner’s first match since winning Wimbledon last month. He chose to withdraw from Toronto and will only play one warm-up tournament before the US Open, where again, he defends the title.
The World No. 1 was in impeccable form, hardly putting a foot wrong in a clinical straight sets win. He hit 17 winners to only four unforced errors. That included six aces and three double faults. Sinner landed 64% of first serves in play and won 96% of first serve points (22/23). He won 62% of second serve points (8/13) and saved one break point, which he faced in the whole match. Sinner is now 27-3 for the season and has not lost a hard-court match since Beijing last October.
Gabriel Diallo is the 30th seed at the Cincinnati Open. The Canadian is taking part in this ATP 1000 tournament for the first time. And Diallo wasted no time to clinch his first win in Cincinnati, defeating Argentina’s Sebastian Baez in straight sets. Diallo trailed 3-4 when he lost his serve in the first set, but quickly regained the break back in the next game to level. He broke Baez for a second time in the 12th game to seal the set 7-5.
In the second set, Diallo took a 3-1 lead whe he broke the Argentine again, and held until 5-3 when he served for the match, that he dropped his serve, but the World No. 36 still had one more bite of the cherry, and broke Baez’s serve to complete a 7-5, 6-4 win. Diallo hit 22 winners to 15 unforced errors in the match. That included nine aces and three double faults. He landed 57% of first serves in play and won 84% of first serve points (27/32). Diallo won 50% of second serve points (12/24) and was broken twice. It’s his third win this swing after winning at least one match in Washington and Toronto. Diallo improves to 31-21 for the season.
Jannik Sinner vs Gabriel Diallo Head-To-Head
Sinner and Diallo have never faced each other at any level.
Jannik Sinner vs Gabriel Diallo Prediction
Sinner’s level in his opening win was ridiculously good. His dominance on hard courts will take some stopping. It’s been nearly a year since he lost a match on this surface, and truthfully, I don’t see anyone beating him in his half of the draw. Diallo’s serve is a shot that can get him some free points, which he will need against a deadly returner like Sinner, but the Canadian was extremely erratic with his delivery against Baez, particularly his second serve, winning only half the points behind it. That said, Sinner looks good value to keep the score under 20 games.
