Denis Shapovalov and Aleksandar Kovacevic meet in the final of the 2025 Los Cabos Open. The match is scheduled for Saturday, July 19. Here’s our Denis Shapovalov vs Aleksandar Kovacevic prediction. This preview will also include a Denis Shapovalov vs Aleksandar Kovacevic pick.
Denis Shapovalov vs Aleksandar Kovacevic Preview
Denis Shapovalov reached his second ATP final of the 2025 season. The Canadian easily beat Australia’s Adam Walton in the semifinals in just 67 minutes. Shapovalov broke Walton’s serve twice in a one-sided first set and served to love to clinch it 6-2. The second set mirrored the first, with Shapovalov taming Walton’s serve twice in succession to lead 5-1. After Walton held, Shapovalov completed the win in his next service game. The World No. 33 hit 24 winners in the match and cut down on the unforced errors from his last match, hammering only 19 of those. He accounted for seven aces and four double faults.
Shapovalov landed 56% of first serves in play and won 76% of first serve points (22/29). He saved all four break points he faced on serve. Shapovalov has not lost a set this week at the Los Cabos Open, and the most games he has dropped in a match were in the quarterfinal win over Tristan Schoolkate. Shapovalov could re-enter the Top 30 with a win on Saturday. The 26-year-old is a three-time champion on the ATP Tour and won his most recent title in Dallas earlier this year. But all three titles were won on indoor hard courts. Shapovalov will aim to add to his collection on the outdoor hard courts of Los Cabos.
Aleksandar Kovacevic reached his second ATP final of his career. In his third appearance at the Los Cabos Open, Kovacevic had never gone beyond the last eight, but made an improvement this week, and pulled off the upset of the tournament by knocking out top seed Andrey Rublev in the semifinals. Kovacevic secured the victory in two and a half hours as he rallied from a set down to win in three.
Just like in Montpellier when he beat the Russian to make his first Tour-level final in early February, history repeated itself in Los Cabos. Kovacevic lost the first set 6-3 in 38 minutes. But he broke Rublev three times in the next two sets to complete an unlikely win. Rublev’s missed forehand shot in the middle of the court on match point summed up his performance as he compiled 39 unforced errors. Kovacevic hit 22 winners and 32 unforced errors in the match. He accounted for five aces and one double fault. Kovacevic landed 53% of first serves in play and won 66% of first serve points (33/50). He saved three of six break points in the match. Kovacevic lost in his only ATP final this year against Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Denis Shapovalov vs Aleksandar Kovacevic Head-To-Head
Shapovalov and Kovacevic have never met at any level.
Denis Shapovalov vs Aleksandar Kovacevic Prediction
Shapovalov has blasted his way into the final in Los Cabos, losing a combined 12 games in three matches. While I did expect him to encounter some difficulties in his semifinal against Walton, the Canadian looked virtually unbeatable. When his shots are fizzing off the strings like they are this week, he can totally dismantle opponents, and that’s what he has done. With this kind of mental clarity, I am backing Shapovalov to ease to his second title of the season.
