Daria Kasatkina and Yulia Putintseva meet in the quarterfinal of the 2024 Ningbo Open. The match is scheduled for Friday, October 18, 2024. Here’s our Daria Kasatkina vs Yulia Putintseva prediction. This preview will also contain a Daria Kasatkina vs Yulia Putintseva pick.
Daria Kasatkina vs Yulia Putintseva Preview
Daria Kasatkina bounced back from her shock defeat in Wuhan by beating Katerina Siniakova at the Ningbo Open. The match lasted about two hours and took 24 games to decide.
Kasatkina played poorly in the first set in which she was broken twice. The Russian also dropped her serve twice in the second set, but was effective in her return game as she broke Siniakova three times to level the match.
In the third set, Kasatkina fought back from a 0-2 deficit to win six straight games for the victory which keeps alive her slim hopes of earning an alternate spot at the 2024 WTA Finals.
Yulia Putintseva, for her part, needed to win two matches to reach the last eight at the Ningbo Open. After beating Caroline Dolehide for the loss of two games in her opener, the Kazakhstani was pushed by the lucky loser Ella Seidel in the second round, but she used her experience to come away with a comfortable straight sets win which took 20 games to decide.
Putintseva tallied seven aces and three double faults. She also landed 63% of first serves and won 71% of first-serve points (27/38). The World No. 32 won 55% of second-serve points (12/22). She converted four of nine break points.
Daria Kasatkina vs Yulia Putintseva Head-To-Head
• Daria Kasatkina and Yulia Putintseva are tied at 1-1 in their head-to-head.
• Their 2024 meeting was won by the Kazakhstani in three sets at the Madrid Open.
Daria Kasatkina vs Yulia Putintseva Prediction
This should be a compelling match between two technically crafty players. Neither player possesses the strongest serve, but Putintseva has been the more composed and clinical with that shot, as she has only been broken three times in two matches. We should see a lot of quality shots here as both players rely majorly on guile rather than sheer power. Putintseva appears to be the slight favorite here. She’s won four of her last five matches. The only defeat in that time is to the in-form Aryna Sabalenka in Wuhan. Back the fiery Kazakhstani to win this.
