Second seed Daniil Medvedev will face Yibing Wu in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Hangzhou Open. The match is scheduled for Sunday, September 21. Here’s our Daniil Medvedev vs Yibing Wu prediction. This preview will also include a Daniil Medvedev vs Yibing Wu pick.

Daniil Medvedev vs Yibing Wu Preview

Daniil Medvedev’s first tournament under new coach Thomas Johansson started on a winning note in Hangzhou. Medvedev defeated American Next Gen star Nishesh Basavareddy for a much-needed win, his 27th of a difficult season. Medvedev won 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 16 minutes.

In the victory, Medvedev hit eight aces to two double faults. Medvedev landed 67% of first serves in play and won 75% of first serve points (24/32). He won 63% of second serve points (10/16) and only faced one break point in the match. This will be Medvedev’s first quarterfinal since Washington and snaps a three-match losing streak in the process. Medvedev has been to three semifinals this season before this week.

Yibing Wu is competing in Hangzhou for a second time. Last year, the Chinese star lost in the first round, but has reached the quarterfinals this week with two impressive wins. In the first round, Wu beat Adrian Mannarino from a set down in three hours. He was two points from defeat, but won the second set in a tie-break.

In the second round, Wu shocked Sebastian Korda in another come-from-behind victory. He prevailed 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in almost two hours. Wu hit nine aces and three double faults in the match. He landed 66% of first serves in play and won 76% of first serve points (45/59). Wu won 53% of second serve points (16/30) and saved three of four break points. This is Yibing Wu’s first quarterfinal on the ATP Tour this season.

Daniil Medvedev vs Yibing Wu Prediction

I’m going with Medvedev in this one, following his stellar performance and result in his opening match. Maybe it was a fresh start that Medvedev needed to find his feet. And the presence of a new coach and hearing an unfamiliar voice is the tonic he needs to play his best tennis. He looked sharp and focused in beating Basavareddy, and we know when Medvedev redlines from the baseline, he’s a brick wall and one of the toughest competitors on tour.

Nur Said's Pick: Daniil Medvedev in three sets
