Daniil Medvedev defeated Roman Safiullin in straight sets to reach the Hangzhou Open. Medvedev won a tight first set 7-5, with the only break in the 12th game. The former World No. 1 trailed at the start of the second set, but quickly restored the break back and went on to break Safiullin one more time in the final game to reach the final. This is Medvedev’s fourth final of the season. He’s won two titles this year (Adelaide and Dubai) and lost in Indian Wells.

Andrey Rublev also reached his first final at the Hangzhou Open after the 28-year-old defeated surprise semifinalist Kyrian Kacquet in straight sets. Jacquet put in a valiant display in the opening set where he forced Rublev into a tiebreak, but the Russian dominated the breaker without dropping a single point. In the second set, Rublev’s experience and firepower proved a little too much for the Frenchman as he broke serve twice to complete a 7-6, 6-1 victory. This will be Rublev’s third final of 2026. He lost in Barcelona to Arthur Fils and lifted the trophy in Bastad.

Rublev has also been tested, surviving that three-set humdinger against Gaston, but his spot in the final was never in doubt. This is a good matchup for Medvedev, whose patient point construction and retrieval skills tend to frustrate the power-hitting Rublev.  It’s a big if, but should Rublev get the first forehand into play and through Medvedev, he can trouble him. And its been three years since their last meeting and Medvedev’s level has been fluctuating pretty much all season, so I wouldn’t overlook an upset here.
