The Line: Borna Coric -120 / Fabian Marozsan -105
Borna Coric and Fabian Marozsan meet in the first round of the 2024 Almaty Open in Kazakhstan. The match is scheduled for Monday, October 14, 2024. Here’s our Borna Coric vs Fabian Marozsan prediction. This preview will also contain a Borna Coric vs Fabian Marozsan pick.
Borna Coric vs Fabian Marozsan Preview
Borna Coric enters this match facing a real prospect of losing his spot in the Top 100. Coric is ranked 97th, his lowest ranking in two years. The Croatian has won 20 of 45 matches across all competitions.
His season actually started brightly, making successive finals, one on the Challenger circuit in Belgium and then a week after in Montpellier. Since February, Coric failed to win back-to-back matches at any ATP tournament until August when he made the round of 16 in Winston-Salem.
Coric has one win from his last six matches and suffered the ignominy of losing to a player ranked outside the Top 300 in Shanghai.
Fabian Marozsan is ranked 48th in the ATP rankings, a few spots below his career-high of No. 36. The Hungarian made waves last year when he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in Rome and played a blinder at Masters 1000 tournaments as he shot to prominence.
Marozsan has won four of his last eight matches, although he missed nearly a month of action because of an undisclosed illness. This came a bit as a surprise, considering he won his first match in Hangzhou last month, pretty comfortably, only to withdraw from the tournament. He has since recovered and will take to the court in Almaty.
Borna Coric vs Fabian Marozsan Head-To-Head
• Borna Coric leads Fabian Marozsan 1-0 in their head-to-head.
• Coric won that match on the clay of the Italian Open last season.
Borna Coric vs Fabian Marozsan Prediction
How bad can it get for Borna Coric? He’s on the verge of a Top 100 exit. He’s only played one decent tournament all year, and that was in February, when he made the final in Montpellier. Coric is still the bookies’ favorite here only because his opponent, Fabian Marozsan, hasn’t played in almost a month because of illness. So, he might just be nicking this, but it wouldn’t be anyone’s surprise if he loses for the 26th time this season.
