Brazil’s Joao Fonseca will face eighth seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final of the Swiss Indoors in Basel on Sunday, October 26. Here’s our Joao Fonseca vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina prediction. This preview will also include a Joao Fonseca vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina pick.

Joao Fonseca vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Preview

Joao Fonseca motored to his first ATP 500 final at the Swiss Indoors in Basel. Fonseca defeated Spain’s Jaume Munar in two tight sets after an hour and 54 minutes. The first set stayed on serve until the tiebreak, where Fonseca earned one mini break and that was enough to see him bag the set.

The Brazilian teenager dropped his serve for the first time in the match in the third game of the second set, but he quickly regained the break back in the eighth game. Serving to stay in the match in the 12th game, Munar felt the pressure and wa broken again to hand Fonseca victory.

Fonseca hit 8 aces and 1 double fault in the match. He landed 64% of first serves in play and won 85% of first serve points (41/48). Fonseca won 52% of second serve points (14/27) and faced one break point in the match. Fonseca has one title on the ATP Tour, which he won in Buenos Aires earlier this season.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina reached his fourth final this season after Ugo Humbert retired in their semifinal. Davidovich Fokina is only the fifth man to make it to four championship matches this year, but the Spaniard will hope to break his duck at last.

Davidovich Fokina led Humbert 7-6, 3-1 when the Frenchman quit because of injury. This was his second straight retirement win. He benefited from Casper Ruud’s retirement in the quarterfinal. In the completed matches, the Spaniard beat Lorenzo Sonego and Jenson Brooksby.

Joao Fonseca vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head-To-Head

Fonseca and Davidovich Fokina met at this year’s Cincinnati Open. Davidovich Fokina retired from the match in the second set.

Joao Fonseca vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Prediction

Another final defeat would be cruel for Davidovich Fokina, who couldn’t have come any closer to winning his first ATP title than in Delray and Washington, where he had match points. But it’s quite commendable and impressive how he has quickly bounced back and reached yet another final. Unfortunately for Davidovich Fokina, that kind of history doesn’t fade easily. Fonseca is playing with unshakeable confidence, having already beaten some serial winners this week and the Brazilian has to be the favorite to win the title in Basel.

Nur Said's Pick: Joao Fonseca in three sets
