Felix Auger-Aliassime is the No. 5 seed in Basel, making his fourth main draw appearance at the tournament. Auger-Aliassime won the title in this event back in 2022 and 2023, but his two-year reign ended last season when he was beaten by the man who dethroned him as champion, Mpetshi Perricard.

Auger-Aliassime is back in Basel in 2025, having climbed to 12th in the ATP rankings after winning 43 matches and losing only 22 times. Diallo has had a decent year, in which he won his first title at the Libema Open on grass, and he also reached the Madrid quarterfinals as a lucky loser. 

Diallo has compiled 36 wins and 27 losses in 2025. He has won two of his last three completed matches on tour and is coming off a three-set loss to James Duckworth in Almaty. Diallo is on course to finish the season in the top 40 for the first time, as he doesn’t defend a lot of points in the coming weeks of the season.

Diallo will pose a major challenge as this is one of the toughest first rounds Auger-Aliassime could have had. That said, I still fancy the more experienced and accomplished Canadian to win this. Auger-Aliassime has won 15 of his last 18 matches and should be a strong favorite to progress.
