Aryna Sabalenka Preview
Aryna Sabalenka reached the third round of the French Open with a straight sets win over Jil Teichmann of Switzerland. The top seed won the first set 6-3 after 50 minutes. She trailed 1-3 but won five games in a row to turn the score around. She needed four set points to clinch the first set.
In the second set, Sabalenka established a 4-0 lead and broke Teichmann for the third time in the set to seal a 6-3, 6-1 win in 80 minutes. In the victory, Sabalenka hit 34 winners and 22 unforced errors. That included two aces and four double faults. Sabalenka landed 58% of first serves in play and won 72% of first serve points (26/36). She won her opening match this week against Kamilla Rakhimova for the loss of one game. Sabalenka can reach the second week of the French Open for the third year in a row.
Olga Danilovic Preview
Olga Danilovic is ranked 34th in the WTA rankings, missing out on a seeding spot at the French Open. Danilovic won her opening match against former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 6-1. In the second round, Danilovic beat former Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins in three sets.
Danilovic won the first set against Collins 6-4 after 42 minutes. Just one break of serve was the difference. But Collins raised her level in the second set, breaking Danilovic twice. Danilovic regained her form in the decider, breaking Collins to take a 5-2 lead. Although Danilovic needed to break Collins a second time to seal the match.
Danilovic hit 29 winners and 27 unforced errors. That included one ace and three double faults. Danilovic landed 69% of first serves in play and won 69% of first serve points (44/64). Aryna Sabalenka vs Olga Danilovic Head-To-Head
Sabalenka and Danilovic have never played before. This will be their first meeting.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Olga Danilovic Prediction
Sabalenka has been crushing the ball all season and tends to steamroll anyone not ranked in the top 10. It’s been one blowout after another in this tournament, but I do rate Danilovic very highly to make this a tight affair. On paper, Sabalenka should be winning this match and for good reason. She is the top seed and most consistent player this year.
Danilovic will have the competitive edge that none of Sabalenka’s opponents showed this week. She’s already built for the big time and stunned a top-five player at the Australian Open in January and just gutted out a good win over big-hitting Collins. If Danilovic finds that lefty slice serve, she can make points very uncomfortable for Sabalenka early on. So, do not be surprised if the Serbian steals a set.
