World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka will face former US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the third round of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled for Friday, July 4. Aryna Sabalenka knocked out unseeded Czech Marie Bouzkova to reach the third round of Wimbledon. While Sabalenka was expected to breeze in her second round match, it was anything but routine. The Belarusian was broken towards the end of the first set and Bouzkova served for it at 6-5, only to be broken back by the World No. 1.

Sabalenka forced a tie-break which she would win 7-4 in precisely an hour. In the second set, earned her only break in the fifth game to lead 3-2 and she would not surrender that advantage. She won 7-6, 6-4 in an hour and 37 minutes.

Sabalenka recorded 41 winners and 18 unforced errors. She accounted for five aces and three double faults. Sabalenka lost just four points behind her dominant first serve and only faced one break point in the match. Sabalenka will attempt to reach the Wimbledon fourth round for the third time. She has twice made the semifinals after reaching the second week.

Meeting her in the third round will be former US Open champion Emma Raducanu. The British No. 1 stunned 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova to prevent a Berlin rematch between Sabalenka and the Czech.

Raducanu earned her best win of the season by some distance, taking out the 73rd-ranked lefty 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 23 minutes. Raducanu and Vondrousova exchanged breaks midway through the first set, but it was the World No. 40 who struck back to lead 5-3 and served for the set. She needed three set points to close it out.

Raducanu broke the Vondrousova serve twice in the second set to complete a fine victory that propels her to the Wimbledon third round for the second straight year. Overall, Raducanu hit 18 winners and 21 unforced errors. Of these, two were aces and she did not account for any double faults. Raducanu landed 72% of first serves in play and won 68% of first serve points (26/38). Raducanu saved four of five break points. Raducanu has reached the Wimbledon fourth round stage twice in her career, but if she is to make it three, she will need to pull off the upset of the tournament by knocking out the reigning World No. 1.

It’s the biggest match of this year’s Wimbledon so far and Sabalenka and Raducanu will only lock horns for the second time in their career. The Belarusian is the favorite opening at -400 odds. Her power game is such a mismatch when compared to the rest of the field. No doubt that Raducanu is playing well and has every chance of making it competitive. Centre Court will be electric, but I’m not picking against Sabalenka on the lawns, not when she has the best Grand Slam record in the first week in the last three years.
