Amanda Anisimova will face Anna Kalinskaya in the third round of the 2025 Cincinnati Open. The match is scheduled for Monday, August 11. Here’s our Amanda Anisimova vs Anna Kalinskaya prediction. This preview will also include an Amanda Anisimova vs Anna Kalinskaya pick.
Amanda Anisimova vs Anna Kalinskaya Preview
Amanda Anisimova is the No. 5 seed at the Cincinnati Open. This will be her fourth main draw appearance in the tournament. Her best run was reaching the round of 16 in 2018 on her debut. Anisimova was not required to lift her racket in reaching the third round. She got a bye in the first round as a seeded player and got a walkover in the second round when her opponent, Leolia Jeanjean, got injured in practice. Anisimova, therefore, only needs one win to make the second week of the tournament and equal her best achievement in Cincinnati.
The American is coming off a fine first half of the season in which she won her biggest WTA titles in Doha. She reached two more finals, including her biggest and first at a Grand Slam in last month’s Wimbledon. Unfortunately she ran into an inspired Iga Swiatekw who crushed her 6-0, 6-0 in one of the most one sided finals in tennis history But Anisimova shook off the loss very quickly thanks to her improved mental toughness, returnign to play on hard courts in Montreal at the end of July, beating Lulu Sun and Emma Raducanu before losing in the quarterfinals to Elina Svitolina. Anisimova currently sits at a career-high ranking of number seven.
Anna Kalinskaya is the No. 28 seed in Cincinnati. This is her fourth main draw appearance too. Kalinskaya had never gone beyond the second round in each of her last three visits to this event, but has done so this week after a thrilling three-set win over American Peyton Stearns in the last round. The match took two and a half hours. Kalinskaya won a 62-minute first set in a tiebreak, having trailed 2-5 and saving a set point at 4-5 down.
Stearns rallied to win the second set, but needed four set points to close it out. In the decider, Kalinskaya broke serve twice before sealing the match 6-1 in the third set. Kalinskaya is one of the form players this swing. She reached the Washington final at the end of last month and made the third round in Montreal. The Russian had now picked up her seventh win from her last nine matches.
Amanda Anisimova vs Anna Kalinskaya Head-To-Head
Anisimova and Kalinskaya have met once on the WTA Tour. That victory came at the Toronto Open last year and was via a retirement.
Amanda Anisimova vs Anna Kalinskaya Prediction
I do like Anisimova here. It’s a big warm-up tournament for the 23-year-old before the US Open, but I’ve been impressed by her mentality after that damaging Wimbledon final loss. She can still look at the positives. A resurgent season that has yielded a WTA 1000 title, two finals on grass (one at Grand Slam level), and a Top 10 spot. Let’s not forget she is in the running to qualify for the WTA Finals for the first time. Anisimova hits one of the best backhands on tour, and when she’s dialed in, she controls the court.
