Second seed Novak Djokovic will face 15th seed Holger Rune in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled for Monday, July 8, 2024. Here's our Novak Djokovic vs Holger Rune prediction.
Novak Djokovic vs Holger Rune Preview
For the second time this year, Novak Djokovic needed four sets to dispatch Alexei Popyrin in a Grand Slam. The Serb needed the best part of three hours to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 and reach the fourth round of Wimbledon again.
In the victory, Djokovic hammered 19 aces (matching Popyrin's tally) to three double faults. He landed 69% first serves and won 88% first-serve points (69/78). Djokovic won 60% of second-serve points and converted two of eight break points. Overall, Djokovic tallied 53 winners to 18 unforced errors, and he can be satisfied with his performance considering the current circumstances with his knee.
Holger Rune, meanwhile, came back from two sets down to beat French qualifier Quentin Halys. The World No. 220 had upset the likes of Christopher Eubanks and Karen Khachanov and was on course to add Rune to his list of casualties.
But the Dane responded in the third set when he broke Halys' serve for 2-1 and would break him twice in the fifth set for the victory. Overall, Rune compiled 52 winners to 23 unforced errors. He won 74% first-serve points and 66% second-serve points.
Novak Djokovic vs Holger Rune Head-To-Head
• Djokovic leads Rune 3-2 in their head-to-head.
• They last played at the ATP Finals in 2023, where the Serb won in three sets.
• This will be their first official meeting on grass.
Novak Djokovic vs Holger Rune Prediction
Djokovic said his knee is “far from okay” during his post-match presser. But so far, he’s not shown any physical discomfort. His pedigree, on the surface, is an aura that not many can match. Rune will challenge him here, and this will be a good litmus test on Djokovic’s title credentials. The Dane is lightning quick, but on the balance of play, I believe Djokovic has the more decisive baseline game on grass to win this match even if his knee is not operating at full health.
