These two teams have faced off one time this season and it was the Avalanche that were able to secure the 1-0 victory.

Jets on Tired Legs

The Jets might be on tired legs, but they are coming off a key victory. The Jets faced off against the Nashville Predators on Monday night and they were able to pick up a 3-0 victory. The Jets scored one goal in the second period and another two in the third period to pick up a victory. Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers both finished with two assists. Gabriel Vilardi finished the game with two goals and he helped pace the team.  Connor Hellebuyck started in goal and he saved all 22 of the shots that he faced. Two games ago against the Ottawa Senators, the Jets were able to secure a 4-2 victory.

The Jets on the season are averaging 3.68 goals while their defense is giving up 2.39 goals per game. The offense is ranked 2nd in the league while the defense is ranked 1st. This team has an elite offense and elite defense, and even on tired legs, this is a team that has confidence that they can come away with a victory. Getting the start for the Jets in goal is expected to be Eric Comrie and he currently sits with a 3-5 record overall and he is giving up 3.05 goals per game.

Why the Jets Will Beat the Avalanche

  • The Jets have won 12 of their last 13 games following a home win.
  • The Avalanche have lost five of their last seven games as home favorites against Central Division opponents.
  • The Avalanche have failed to cover the puck line in 10 of their last 11 games as home favorites against opponents on a winning streak.
  • The Jets have covered the puck line in each of their last four games.
  • The Avalanche have lost the first period in three of their last four games as home favorites against Central Division opponents.

Avalanche Look for Fifth Straight Win

The Avalanche have a ton of confidence heading into this game and they have won four games in a row. In the last game against the Utah Hockey Club, the Avalanche scored four goals and the defense gave up only one goal. Atturi Lehkonen scored three goals and they had four shots on goal. Nathan MacKinnon might not have scored a goal, but he did finish with three assists and was a key to the success. Mackenzie Blackwood signed the big contract extension and he saved 34 of the 35 shots that he faced. Two games ago against the Seattle Kraken, the Avalanche scored five goals and ended up with another comfortable victory.

The Avalanche on the season is averaging 3.35 goals while their defense is giving up 3.27 goals per game. The offense is ranked 7th in the league while the defense is ranked 24th. They have a positive shot differential of 2.32 shots per game, which is 9th best in the NHL. In this game, they need to try and pepper the shots on goal. Blackwood is expected to get the start after he dominated the last game. Blackwood sits with a 10-10-3 record overall and he is giving up 2.27 goals per game. He has a save percentage of .917 and he has one total shutout.

Winnipeg Jets vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction

Even with the Winter Classic, this is the game I am most excited about. The Jets are going to find success, even on tired legs and even on the road. The Avs offense has been good, but their defense is giving up 3.27 goals and they are going to really struggle to defend here. The Jets offense will get the offense going early, and even with the tired legs, they aren’t going to blow it late. The Avalanche aren’t going to score more than two goals, and the Jets will come out on top here.
