-Recent Betting trends and streaks involving New York

-Recent Betting trends and streaks involving San Jose

-Recent betting trends in games played between New York and San Jose

-A summary that ties it all together produces a favorable betting outcome for Today’s Game between the Islanders and Sharks.

Islanders Big Sellers

The Islanders were big sellers at the trade deadline, including Brock Nelson being shipped off. He was the heart and soul of this team so it will be interesting to see how the team reacts in the first game without him. The Islander’s last game came against the Winnipeg Jets, and they secured a 4-3 victory. Brock Nelson was the top player in that game, scoring a goal and an assist, and his last two were for the team. Ilya Sorokin was impressive in goal, saving 26 of the 28 shots. Two games ago, against the New York Rangers, they struggled a little more and ended up losing 4-0.

New York has only averaged 2.7 goals per game, ranking them 27th in the league. They have given up an average of 2.97 goals per game, ranking them 17th in the NHL. Their shooting percentage is only 9.41%, ranking them 30th. Sorokin could get the start in goal and he sits with a 23-19-4 record and is giving up 2.74 goals per game. The Islanders have won three of their last four games played by Sorokin.

Sharks Were Also Sellers

The Sharks were also major sellers at the trade deadline but that wasn’t much of a shock because of how bad they have been overall. The last game for the Sharks came against the Colorado Avalanche and they didn’t play well at all. The defense gave up seven goals and that led to the four-goal defeat. William Eklund did have a strong game scoring a goal and adding an assist, but he was the only real bright spot.

The Sharks have averaged 2.62 goals per game, ranking them 30th place in the NHL. Defensively, they have allowed for an average of 3.7 goals per game, ranking them 32nd. Similarly to the Islanders, San Jose has averaged 9.71% of their shots scored, ranking them 27th. Alexander Georgiev could get the start and he’s been awful. He sits with a 12-20-1 record and he’s giving up 3.64 goals per game. The Sharks just don’t have many other choices because he shouldn’t be getting many more chances.

Why the Sharks Will Beat the Islanders

  • The Islanders have lost four of their last five games as road favorites following a home win.
  • The underdogs have won two of the Sharks’ last three games.
  • The home team has covered the puck line in six of the Islanders’ last seven games.
  • The Islanders have failed to cover the puck line in five of their last six games as road favorites following a win.
  • Four of the last five night games between the Islanders and Sharks, the team leading after the second period has won the third period.

New York Islanders vs San Jose Sharks Prediction

Let’s have an honest conversation about this game. There are better teams and games on the board to bet. On one side, you have a team who just traded away their heart and soul, and on the other side, you have a team that is all but checked out and is sending one of the worst goaltenders on the season to start. That being said, I just don’t know how you don’t bet on the Islanders here. The Sharks offense is averaging only 2.62 goals and their offense is going to struggle again here. The Islanders might only score three goals, but it will be enough. Back the Sharks.
