The Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants meet in week 1 NFL preseason action from MetLife Stadium on Saturday. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Minnesota Vikings vs. New York Giants Prediction.
Minnesota Vikings Team Preview
The Minnesota Vikings enter the 2026 season looking to rebound after a frustrating 2025 campaign under head coach Kevin O’Connell that saw them finish 9-8 and miss the postseason despite a strong 5-1 start. In 2025, Justin Jefferson led the receiving corps with 1,048 receiving yards alongside Jordan Mason’s team-high 758 rushing yards, while young edge rusher Dallas Turner spearheaded the pass rush with 8 sacks. During the 2026 offseason, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah drastically altered the offense by signing dual-threat quarterback Kyler Murray, who ultimately won the starting competition in training camp over 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy, while also bringing in veteran safety Jamal Adams to reinforce the defensive secondary following the retirement of franchise legend Harrison Smith. In the 2026 NFL Draft, Minnesota focused heavily on bolstering its defensive front early by taking Florida defensive lineman Caleb Banks in the first round. Armed with Kyler Murray under center, a world-class playmaker in Jefferson, and a defense stocked with fresh high-round talent, the Vikings head into 2026 aiming to stabilize their quarterback play, make a push in a hyper-competitive NFC North, and return to the playoffs.
New York Giants Team Preview
The New York Giants enter the 2026 season focused on resetting the franchise after a disappointing 2025 campaign that saw them finish 4-13 at the bottom of the NFC East. In 2025, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart logged valuable developing reps under center with 2,272 passing yards, wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson anchored the receiving corps with 1,014 yards, and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. paced the ground attack with 740 rushing yards. During a transformative 2026 offseason, general manager Joe Schoen overhauled the core by trading All-Pro defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals for a first-round draft selection, while also signing veteran defensive tackles DJ Reader and Leki Fotu, offensive lineman Daniel Faalele, and wide receivers Darnell Mooney and Odell Beckham Jr. In the 2026 NFL Draft, New York used its double first-round picks to select elite Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese fifth overall and Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa tenth overall, before adding Auburn cornerback Colton Hood in the second round and Virginia wide receiver Malachi Fields in the third round. Armed with top-ten draft selections across the front seven and line, alongside new offensive targets for Dart, the Giants head into 2026 looking to rebuild their identity and establish momentum in the NFC East.
Minnesota Vikings vs. New York Giants Prediction
I’m on the Vikings in this one. I think a lot is made about the preseason coaching record of John Harbaugh with the Ravens over the years, but the fact is that the preseason for me is all about finding motivation and guys who are looking to earn reps and playing time. The Vikings are also looking to get Kyler Murray some reps to tune him up as the week 1 starter and I’m sure JJ McCarthy is going out looking for playing time as well to stay ready given Murray’s checkered past in terms of injuries. I think the Vikings take care of business in this one so give me Minnesota.
Chris Ruffolo's Pick: Minnesota Vikings -2.5
