The Carolina Panthers and the Jacksonville Jaguars meet in week 1 NFL action from EverBank Stadium on Sunday. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Carolina Panthers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars prediction.

Carolina Panthers Team Preview

The Carolina Panthers enter the 2025 season determined to rebound from a 5-12 finish in 2024. Quarterback Bryce Young showed flashes of growth late last year, and the front office made major moves to support his development. The Panthers selected wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan with the eighth overall pick out of Arizona, adding a true No. 1 option to pair with Xavier Legette and veteran Adam Thielen. They also signed veteran running back Rico Dowdle to complement Chuba Hubbard in the backfield, giving Carolina a deeper, more balanced running back room. On defense, the team released Jadeveon Clowney and retooled the front line by signing Tershawn Wharton to a three-year, $54 million deal and bringing in Bobby Brown III. In the secondary, Jaycee Horn signed a four-year, $100 million extension, making him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. The Panthers also re-signed Mike Jackson, solidifying the outside corner positions. Edge rushers Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen were added through the draft, adding speed and depth to a defense that lacked bite in 2024. With upgrades across both sides of the ball, 2025 represents a huge year for the Panthers’ rebuild. If the young core gels, Carolina could take a meaningful step forward in its long-term outlook.

Jacksonville Jaguars Recap

After a brutal 4-13 season in 2024 snapped a two-year playoff streak, the Jacksonville Jaguars enter 2025 with a new regime and retooled roster. Former Rams assistant Liam Coen takes over as head coach, and new GM James Gladstone has orchestrated major offseason moves. The team traded away top receiver Christian Kirk and veteran left tackle Cam Robinson, and released tight end Evan Engram. To help Trevor Lawrence bounce back after missing seven games with injuries last year, the Jaguars added receiver Dyami Brown to a receiving corps now led by emerging second-year wideout Brian Thomas Jr. and veteran Gabe Davis, while running back Travis Etienne Jr. continues to spearhead the backfield. They also fortified the offensive line by signing guard Patrick Mekari and center Robert Hainsey to join tackles Walker Little and Anton Harrison, while second-year tight end Brenton Strange replaces Engram as the starter. On defense, new coordinator Anthony Campanile will lean on edge rushers Josh Allen and Travon Walker and tackling machine Foyesade Oluokun. Jacksonville solidified the defensive front with former 49ers standout Arik Armstead and addressed a secondary that ranked last in pass defense by signing cornerback Jourdan Lewis and safety Eric Murray to complement standout corner Tyson Campbell. The Jaguars also drafted two-way phenom Travis Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick, planning to use him at wide receiver and cornerback. With all these changes, Jacksonville aims to contend for the AFC South title again in 2025.

Carolina Panthers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Prediction

I’m on the Jaguars here. I just am not understanding all this love for Carolina for the upcoming season. The Panthers had moments where they looked solid, but who didn’t, and the cons far outweighed the pros for the Panthers in my opinion. Jacksonville had a tough year themselves, but keep in mind this is also a Jaguars team that’s seen playoff action before for the most part and watching the preseason, even though it’s preseason, I liked the edge this team had with Liam Coen leading the charge and the swagger if you will that the Jags had. I think this is going to be a Jaguars team to keep an eye on in 2025, and it starts here. Give me Jacksonville.

Chris Ruffolo's Pick: Jacksonville -3.5
