The Chicago Bears are 0-1 this year after they lost to Minnesota by a score of 27-24 on Monday night. Chicago led 7-0 after the first quarter and 10-6 at the half. The Bears extended their lead to 17-6 going into the fourth quarter, but they allowed the next 21 points and ended up with a bad loss. The Bears out gained Minnesota by a total of 317-254, went 3-12 on third downs, and tied the turnover battle at one in the game. Caleb Williams went 21-35 for 210 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 58 yards and a score. D’Andre Swift rushed 17 times for 53 yards, while DJ Moore caught three passes for 68 yards in the loss. The Chicago defense was led by Noah Sewell, who recorded nine tackles, while the team had three sacks and six tackles for loss in the game. 

Chicago looked like they were going to get an easy victory to start the season, but their offense stalled in the second half and the defense couldn’t stop JJ McCarthy. The Bears were truly a completely different team for most of the second half and Williams missed quite a few open throws. I do think Ben Johnson will help the Chicago offense, but Williams cannot continue to miss some of these open receivers.

The Detroit Lions are 0-1 this season after they lost to Green Bay by a score of 27-13 last week. Detroit trailed 10-0 after the first quarter and 17-3 at halftime, as they had a costly turnover right before the half. The Lions did cut the lead to 17-6 in the third, but allowed the next 14 points to seal the loss. Detroit was out gained by a total of 266-246, went 5-15 on third downs, and lost the turnover battle by a total of 1-0 in the game. Jared Goff went 31-39 for 225 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while David Montgomery rushed for 11 times for 25 yards. Sam LaPorta caught six passes for 79 yards, while Amon-Ra St. Brown caught four passes for 45 yards. The Detroit defense was led by Jack Campbell, who recorded 10 total tackles, while the team had zero sacks and two tackles for loss in the loss. 

Detroit had a very disappointing start to the season and they weren’t even competitive in their loss to Green Bay. The Lions lost both coordinators from last year, so I expected a small step back, but their performance was awful. Detroit has to figure out their offensive line issues and they also need to figure out how to generate a pass rush.
