The New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers meet in week 1 NFL action from Levi’s Stadium on Monday night. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a New York Jets vs. San Francisco 49ers prediction.
New York Jets Team Preview
The New York Jets come into the 2024 season hoping for a better start to the year than last, as an early injury to Aaron Rodgers in their opening game set the tone for a 7-10 mark in 2023, missing the playoffs once again, having not made it since the 2010 season. Rodgers is back with a green light though along with up-and-coming stars like Breece Hall in the Jets’ backfield and Garrett Wilson in the receiving corps. On defense, C.J. Mosely and Quincy Williams make up the pair of star linebackers for the Jets behind the defensive line anchored by Quinnen Williams and the recently acquired Javon Kinlaw. The secondary is led by Sauce Gardner, arguably the top corner in the NFL today. The Jets will meet the Titans after this game.
Why the New York Jets will win
- The 49ers have lost four of their last five games as moderate favorites (-3.5 to -7.0 points).
- The road team has won four of the 49ers' last five Week 1 games.
- The 49ers have failed to cover the spread in each of their last seven games in California.
- The underdogs have covered the spread in each of the 49ers' last seven games at Levi's Stadium.
San Francisco 49ers Team Preview
The San Francisco 49ers come into the 2024 campaign hoping to finish the job after losing in OT to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl by a final score of 25-22, finishing the regular season at 12-5 with a second straight NFC West title. Brock Purdy is back under center for the Niners while Christian McCaffrey assumes the 49ers backfield once again as arguably the most complete running back in the NFL. The 49ers were able to ink Brandon Aiyuk to a long-term extension and Deebo Samuel returns alongside George Kittle at tight end to give the 49ers a solid receiving group. On defense, Nick Bosa leads the rush up front while Fred Warner anchors the linebacker group.
Why the San Francisco 49ers will win
- The Jets have lost 16 of their last 18 games in September.
- The 49ers have won eight of their last nine September games against AFC East opponents.
- The Jets have failed to cover the spread in seven of their last eight September games against NFC opponents.
- The home team has covered the spread in three of the Jets' last four Week 1 games.
New York Jets vs. San Francisco 49ers Prediction
I’m looking at the 49ers here. I think it’ll be interesting to see how the Niners handle the Jets’ defense which lots of folks are considering to be one of the better and more underappreciated units in the NFL. However, the Niners are still the more proven team and while the Jets have the talent, I want to see what Aaron Rodgers does in his first game back before putting all of my eggs in the Jets’ basket. This will be a great game, but I’m leaning towards the Niners by a touchdown here.
