The Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics collide at the TD Garden on Wednesday night. Here’s a Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics Prediction. This article will include a Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics Pick.

Philadelphia 76ers Betting Preview

The Philadelphia 76ers were one of the most disappointing teams last season, as they managed just 24 wins to miss the playoffs. Injuries were a big part of their demise as key players Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey all missed significant time. However, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic this time round if they can just stay healthy this season. Tyrese Maxey was a lone bright spot for the 76ers as he averaged 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game but played just 52 games.

Joel Embiid averaged 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists during his 19 games, while Paul George averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists during his 41 games he started. As a team, the 76ers scored 109.6 points per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from the 3-point line. The 76ers will be eager to make up for last season’s embarrassing campaign, but I wouldn’t expect them to hit the ground running with George yet to practice with the team following his knee surgery in July.

Boston Celtics Betting Preview

Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics had every reason to return to the NBA Finals last season after racking up 61 wins in the regular season to finish with the second seed in the Eastern Conference. However, that all changed once Jayson Tatum suffered an Achilles injury and had to watch from the sidelines as his team was eliminated by the pesky Knicks in the second round of the playoffs. Jayson Tatum led the team with averages of 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game. Jaylen Brown averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.

Kristaps Porzingis had an injury riddled season and averaged 19.5 points during his 42 games. Derrick White was rock solid with averages of 16.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. As a team, the Celtics scored 116.3 points per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from the 3-point line. The Celtics were busy in the offseason as they traded away Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday and Al Horford, while adding Chris Boucher and Luke Garza. Tatum was originally expected to sit out the entire upcoming season, but he has progressed ahead of schedule and has said that he could feature towards the end of this season.

Why the Boston Celtics will win

  • The 76ers have lost each of their last 11 night games against Atlantic Division opponents.
  • The Celtics have won eight of their last nine home openers against Atlantic Division opponents.
  • The 76ers have failed to cover the spread in each of their last six games as road underdogs.
  • The Celtics have covered the spread in four of their last five home openers as favorites against Atlantic Division opponents.

Why the Philadelphia 76ers will win

  • The Celtics have lost four of their last five night games against Atlantic Division opponents.
  • The road team has won each of the 76ers’ last three games.
  • The Celtics have failed to cover the spread in four of their last five night games.

Total Points Facts

  • Seven of the 76ers’ last eight road openers as underdogs against Eastern Conference opponents have gone OVER the total points line.
  • Each of the Celtics’ last four games as favorites against the 76ers have gone OVER the total points line.

Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics Prediction

The 76ers are expected to have a full squad to start the season, which will delight their starving fans, while the Celtics will be shorthanded with Jayson Tatum ruled out and Jaylen Brown listed as questionable with a hamstring strain. The line could shift before tipoff if Brown is able to suit up for the Celtics, but assuming there are no changes, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the 76ers this time round.

The Celtics are still slight favorites at home despite their injury, but I think there is some value with the 76ers as underdogs in this spot. In a game that could go either way, I am leaning towards the visitors to take advantage of a shorthanded Celtics squad to get the minor upset on the road.

Peter Tran's Pick: Philadelphia +2
