Alperen Sengun led the team in scoring with 39 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists on 12 of 24 shooting, Kevin Durant added 23 points with nine rebounds and three assists Amen Thompson scored 18 points with five assists while Jabari Smith Jr chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Rocket shot 44 percent from the field and 11 of 39 from the 3-point line as they stifled the defending champs early on with their tall starting lineup, but in a finish that could’ve gone either way, it was the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who drained the game-winning free throws with just 2.3 seconds left in the second overtime period. The Rockets will be a little disappointed that they couldn’t get more support from their bench who combined for just 24 points, but there was a lot to like about their unorthodox starting lineup that didn’t feature a true point guard.

Both teams are coming into this one fresh off defeats, but at the moment there is more to like about the Rockets who were really impressive in their narrow defeat to the defending champs in their season opener. We saw the Rockets’ extra tall starting lineup work pretty well on Tuesday and I think they can build on that with a better result in this matchup. It wouldn’t be a shock if the Pistons were able to pull off the upset on the road, but I like what I saw from the Rockets and I think they earn their first win of the season in this spot behind a big game from Durant.
