Brooklyn Nets Betting Preview
The Brooklyn Nets are coming off a really experimental type of season where they won just 26 games and used a total of 44 different starting lineups. The Nets were never truly a threat to make any noise in the postseason, but there were some bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season. Still, it’s unrealistic to expect anything but another rebuilding year for them as they have stuck with their young roster and used all of their first round picks to draft more talented rookies to add to their squad. Only two players featured in more than 63 games last season, one of them being Keon Johnson who has since been traded along with D’Angelo Russell, Trendon Watford and Cam Johnson. In terms of team additions, the Nets acquired Michael Porter Jr, Terance Mann and Haywood Highsmith while re-signing Tyrese Martin, Day’Ron Sharpe, Cam Thomas, Jalen Wilson and Ziaire Williams. As a team, the Nets scored just 105.1 points per game while shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from the 3-point line.
Charlotte Hornets Betting Preview
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets were able to tally up just 19 wins last season as they were seriously hampered by lengthy injuries to key players like LaMelo Ball who played just 47 games and Brandon Miller who played just 27 games. Despite such a disappointing season, there is reason to believe that the Hornets will enjoy a bounce-back season as they were busy in the offseason to nab Collin Sexton, Pat Connaughton and Mason Plumee while drafting Kon Knueppel with the fourth overall pick. Seth Curry, DaQuan Jeffries, Josh Okogie, Vasilije Micic and Jusuf Nurkic were all shipped away. This will surely be another developmental year for this young squad, but I like their chances of eclipsing the 30-win mark if they can stay healthy unlike last season. As a team, the Hornets scored 105.1 points per game while shooting 43.0 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from the 3-point line.
Brooklyn v Charlotte Free Prediction
The Hornets are a little shorthanded to start the season with Grant Williams and Josh Green both out injured without a timetable for return, while the Nets will be missing Haywood Highsmith at least for another eight weeks. Expectations are low for both teams once again, but there is a little more to like about the Hornets who have opened as favorites at home for this matchup. You couldn’t back either side with too much confidence, but while I like the Hornets to draw first blood and escape with the win at home, I don’t see much value with them as favorites this early in the season. Give me the Nets to escape with the cover in a game they could win outright.
