The Detroit Pistons and the Houston Rockets duke it out at the Toyota Center on Wednesday night.
The Detroit Pistons have been in terrible shape as they’ve lost eight of their nine games and they will be hoping to end a four-game slide after falling just short to the Nets in a 96-90 home loss on Friday. Cade Cunningham led the team with 17 points on six of 17 shooting, Kelly Olynyk added 14 points with 10 rebounds off the bench while Saddiq Bey and Cory Joseph each scored 12 points. As a team, the Pistons shot just 37 percent from the field and 11 of 34 from the 3-point line as they held the Nets to just 11 points in the second quarter to tie the game going into halftime, but they just couldn’t maintain that intensity in the third quarter where the Nets exploded for 39 points to lead by 16 points going into the fourth quarter. Jerami Grant had a night to forget as he finished with just five points on zero of nine shooting.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have struggled to get going so far as they’ve lost nine of their first 10 games and they will be looking to put an end to a nine-game slide after getting routed by the Warriors in a 120-107 road loss on Sunday. Jae’Sean Tate led the team with 21 points and 10 rebounds, Daniel Theis added 14 points on five of seven shooting while Kevin Porter Jr. chipped in with 11 points and seven assists. As a team, the Rockets shot 45 percent from the field and 10 of 33 from the 3-point line as they never looked likely in this one after allowing 69 points in the first half, before getting blown out in the third quarter where they trailed by as many as 21 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 1-7 ATS in their last eight road games, 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a losing record and 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games overall. The Rockets are 15-37 ATS in their last 52 home games, 16-35 ATS in their last 51 games against a team with a losing record and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 7-2 in the last nine meetings overall, the Pistons are 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and the Pistons are 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings in Houston.
A couple of losing streaks are on the line in this one as the struggling Pistons take on the ice-cold Rockets in a battle of the cellar dwellers. The Pistons have won just one game so far and they’ve lost their last four straight, but they were more than competitive in a narrow loss to the Nets on Friday. The Rockets come into this one with a worse record and they will be shorthanded in this one as Kevin Porter Jr. is listed as questionable with a thigh injury. The Rockets open as slight favorites here, but I’m sticking with the Pistons who are 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings in Houston.
