The Boston Red Sox and the Cincinnati Reds meet Saturday in MLB action from Great American Ballpark. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Boston Red Sox vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The Boston Red Sox will send out Nick Pivetta here and Pivetta is 4-4 with a 3.88 ERA and 59 strikeouts this season. In his career, Pivetta is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA and 25 strikeouts against the Reds. Boston Red Sox Recap
The Boston Red Sox come into this one looking to bounce back after starting the series with a 5-2 loss in Friday’s series opener. The loss wasn’t ideal for the Red Sox who have picked up series wins over the Blue Jays, Yankees and Phillies in the last week and a half.
Red Sox Rolling Offensively Despite Loss
Jarren Duran leads the Red Sox with 88 hits along with 19 stolen bases, 21 doubles, 10 triples and 78 strikeouts and also has 34 RBIs so far this season. Wilyer Abreu has 14 doubles and Ceddanne Rafaela also has a team-leading 41 RBIs while Rafael Devers has 66 hits with 15 doubles, 14 home runs, 38 RBIs and a .274 batting average this season.
Why the Boston Red Sox will win
- The Red Sox have won eight of their last nine games after playing the previous day.
- The Reds have lost each of their last five day games against AL East opponents that held a winning record.
- The Reds have failed to cover the run line each of their last six day games against AL East opponents that held a winning record.
- The Red Sox have covered the run line in seven of their last eight day games against National League opponents following a road loss.
Cincinnati Reds Recap
The Cincinnati Reds come into this game looking to pile onto their win over the Red Sox from Friday’s opening matchup. The win was a welcome sight for the Reds who are coming in on the heels of back-to-back series losses to the Pirates and Brewers over the last week.
Reds Still Struggling Offensively
Elly De La Cruz leads the Reds with 64 hits, 12 home runs and 31 RBIs with 37 stolen bases along with a .234 batting average as well. Spencer Steer has a team-high 43 RBIs with 16 doubles and 12 stolen bases while Will Benson also has 12 doubles with 9 stolen bases but also has 94 strikeouts while De La Cruz has a team-high 100 strikeouts so far this season. Jeimer Candelario also has a team-leading 17 doubles as well as 14 home runs and 64 hits this season for Cincinnati.
Why the Cincinnati Reds will win

- The underdogs have won five of the Red Sox’s last six games.
- The underdogs have covered the run line in each of the Red Sox’s last six games.
- The Red Sox have failed to cover the run line in seven of their last eight games as favorites against NL Central opponents.
- The Reds have won the first inning in each of their last three games against American League opponents.
Boston Red Sox vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction
I’m on the Red Sox here. The Red Sox stumbled on Friday, but realistically, the Red Sox have been the easier team to trust offensively in recent weeks and they have played their better baseball on the road so far this season. Nick Pivetta’s a better option than Kutter Crawford was on Friday and Frankie Montas has been wildly inconsistent for the Reds so far this year. I think the Red Sox get some revenge here, so give me Boston in this one.
