The Houston Astros and the Oakland A’s meet Wednesday in MLB action from the Oakland Coliseum. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The Houston Astros will start Hunter Brown here and Brown is 8-6 with a 4.14 ERA and 110 strikeouts this season. JP Sears will get the start for Oakland and is 7-7 with a 4.49 ERA and 80 strikeouts this season.
Houston Astros Recap
The Houston Astros will be looking to bounce back and salvage something from this series after falling flat in an 8-2 loss to the A’s on Tuesday. The loss meant a series loss for the Astros, which was not ideal in trying to follow up their series win over the Mariners from the series prior.
Astros Trying To Surge Ahead In AL West Race
Jose Altuve has 123 hits and a .304 batting average with 14 home runs, 44 RBIs and 18 doubles while Kyle Tucker has 19 homers with 11 doubles and 40 RBIs. Yordan Alvarez also has 20 homers with 54 RBIs and 24 doubles while Altuve has the Astros’ team lead with 15 stolen bases so far this season. Jeremy Pena also has 107 hits and a .282 batting average as well as 12 stolen bases of his own this season. Alex Bregman’s added 12 homers and 47 RBIs also.
Why the Houston Astros will win
- The Athletics have lost nine of their last 10 day games against American League opponents that held a winning record.
- The Astros have won each of their last five day games against AL West opponents following a road loss.
- The Astros have covered the run line in eight of their last nine day games following a loss.
- The Athletics have failed to cover the run line in seven of their last nine day games against American League opponents that held a winning record.
Oakland A’s Recap
The Oakland A’s will try to keep their run of form going after Tuesday’s win to complete a surprising sweep of the rival Astros, which would follow up their series wins over the Phillies and Angels over the last week and a half.
A’s Continue To Show Life Offensively
Brent Rooker leads the A’s with 69 RBIs along with 23 home runs this season while Abraham Toro has 74 hits and 25 RBIs. JJ Bleday has a team-high 30 doubles, 4 triples, 88 hits and 36 RBIs and Toro has a .256 batting average. Rooker also has the unfortunate title of leading strikeout bat with 115 K’s at the dish this season, alongside Zack Gelof, who has 113 strikeouts. Shea Langeliers has also chipped in 19 home runs and 53 RBIs.
Why the Oakland Athletics will win
- The Athletics have won each of their last four games as underdogs against AL West opponents.
- The Astros have lost four of their last five games as favorites against AL West opponents.
- The Athletics have covered the run line in seven of their last eight games against AL West opponents.
- The Astros have failed to cover the run line in four of their last five games as favorites against AL West opponents.
Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics Prediction
I’m on the Astros here. I know the A’s have been providing a ton of value as of late, but the Astros have to see what’s going on with Seattle and realize that they’re not going to get opportunities to pull away in the division like they’re getting right now. The Mariners are struggling and the A’s are not this good, we just have to face facts. Teams go through hot runs, even the worst teams in baseball, but those runs end and I think Houston gets revenge after looking sluggish in the first two games of this series. Give me the Astros.
