Toronto Blue Jays Betting Preview

The Jays had a rough time with the Boston Red Sox in their last series. Toronto lost all three of those games in a sweep 7-3, 4-3 and 7-3 again. The Blue Jays took a 7-1 loss in the Friday opener of this set, then in game two Toronto took a 6-3 loss. Starter Jose Berrios lasted 5.0 innings with five earned on six hits and a walk.

In the starter role for the Sunday matchup the Jays are sending out Yusei Kikuchi. This year Kikuchi is 4-6 with a 3.65 ERA and 83 Ks in 81.1 innings over 15 starts. Kikuchi is 36-43 with a 4.59 career ERA in 149 games (137 starts).

Cleveland Guardians Betting Preview

Over on the Guardians’ side, they played the Seattle Mariners in their early-week set. Cleveland lost 8-5 in the opener but then came back for wins 8-0 and 6-3 in the next two. On Saturday the Guardians out-hit the Jays 8-4. Ben Lively put up 5.2 innings in the start with two earned runs.

Triston McKenzie will take the mound for the start on Sunday. This year McKenzie is 3-4 with a 4.48 ERA in 14 starts. He’s got 65 Ks in 70.1 innings. McKenzie is 21-28 with a  3.86 career ERA in 82 games (78 starts).

Toronto Blue Jays vs Cleveland Guardians Prediction

I’ll take a stab on the Jays. Both starters could use a good showing here, though. Kikuchi gave up five earned on seven hits in 4.0 innings during a loss to the Red Sox his last time up. As for McKenzie, he’s got nine earned in 8.0 innings over two of his last three starts combined. This one could get ugly quick if neither starter is on point.

In Saturday’s game, the Jays got quite a bit of mileage out of four team hits; three of them were home runs. The good news is that the back end of the bullpen was solid; the bad news was the early 4-2 hole after three innings. Toronto needs to get better on both sides in the finale.
