Mets Hoping to Stay Hot

The New York Mets are 33-37 this season and they have won five games in a row. New York is coming off of a series win against the Padres, where they won all three games by scores of 2-1, 5-1, and 11-6. Prior to that series, the Mets won two out of three against the Marlins, split two games with the Phillies, and swept the Nationals in three games. New York is 9-2 in their last 11 games, but they are still fourth in the NL East.

The New York pitching staff has a 4.11 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, and a .235 opponent batting average. The Mets offense has scored 313 runs with a .243 batting average and a .315 on base percentage. Pete Alonso is batting .232 with 15 home runs and 37 RBI’s for the Mets this season. New York has scored at least five runs in seven of their last eleven games.

Rangers are Disappointed After Being Swept

The Texas Rangers are 33-38 this year and they have lost four of their last six games. Texas is coming off of a series loss against Seattle, where they lost all three games by scores of 3-2, 7-6, and 5-0. Prior to that series, the Rangers won two out of three against the Dodgers, lost two out of three against the Giants, and lost two out of three against the Tigers. Texas is 3-6 in their last nine games and they are second in the AL West, 8.5 games behind Seattle.

The Texas pitching staff has a 4.00 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and a .229 opponent batting average. The Rangers offense has scored 300 runs with a .238 batting average and a .306 on base percentage. Corey Seager is batting .258 with 14 home runs and 33 RBI’s for the Rangers this season. Texas has scored three runs or fewer in seven of their last nine games.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for New York is David Peterson, who is 2-0 with a 4.32 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP over 16.2 innings pitched this year. Peterson has allowed two earned runs or fewer in two of his three starts this year. The projected starting pitcher for Texas is Jon Gray, who is 2-2 with a 2.17 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP over 62.1 innings pitched this season. Gray has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five straight outings, but his last two appearances only lasted 5.1 innings total.

Total Runs Facts

Six of the Rangers' last seven home games against National League opponents have gone UNDER the total runs line.Six of the Mets' last eight games have gone UNDER the total runs line. The 'Inning 1 OVER 0.5 runs' market has hit in each of the Rangers' last four night games.

New York Mets vs Texas Rangers Prediction

New York comes into this series four games below .500 on the season, but they are playing their best baseball of the season right now. The Mets offense is finally scoring at a consistent pace, but they will be starting David Peterson, who is just an average pitcher. Luckily for Peterson, the Rangers offense has been awful in recent games. Texas is 16-17 at home this year and they are just 18th in the MLB in runs scored. Texas is starting Jon Gray, who has been very good so far this season. This is an interesting matchup, as Texas has the pitching advantage, but the Rangers offense has been awful. I know the Mets are playing at a very high level right now, but I like how Gray is pitching. My New York Mets vs Texas Rangers prediction is for the Rangers to win at home.
