The Nationals played the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. Washington lost the first installment of that set 5-2 but won the others 2-1, 7-3 and 8-5 for a series victory. On Tuesday versus the Tigers, the Nationals eked out a 5-4 win in 10 innings. Starting pitcher Mitchell Parker had 4.2 clean innings with four hits and three walks.

For the starter gig on Wednesday the Nationals are sending out Jake Irvin. This year Irvin is 4-5 with a 3.12 ERA and 64 Ks in 75.0 innings over 13 starts. Irvin is 7-12 with a 4.04 ERA in 37 starts during his career.

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview

Over on the Tigers’ side, they played the Milwaukee Brewers in their last set. Detroit lost 10-0 and 5-4 in the first two games of that series, but staved off the sweep with a 10-2 Sunday win. In Tuesday’s matchup the Tigers scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning. Kenta Maeda managed 4.0 innings in the start with one earned on four walks and a hit.

It’ll be Reese Olson in the starter role for the Tigers on Wednesday. So far this season Olson is 1-7 with a 3.43 ERA and 58 Ks in 65.2 innings over 12 starts. Olson is 6-14 with a 3.77 ERA in 33 career games (30 starts).

Washington Nationals vs Detroit Tigers

I’ll stay with the Nationals. Irvin should be in good shape here. Over his last three starts combined Irvin is 2-0 with just two earned runs in 18.0 combined innings. As for Olson, he’s stumbled a bit over his last pair. In those two Olson is 0-2 with 13 earned runs over 9.1 innings of work.

On Tuesday the Nationals blew a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning but otherwise had a really solid defensive effort. Washington used five pitchers in the 10-inning victory, so a lengthy start from Irvin would really help on Wednesday.
