Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Betting Preview

Louisiana has managed to stay on the right side of the .500 mark so far this year. The Cajuns started with a win over Lamar, then lost to USC 49-30 on September 12. Louisiana would follow that up with three straight wins over UAB, Charlotte and Arkansas State. Game six was another loss however, this time versus Louisiana Tech for a 4-2 record to start the year.

In the Troy game the Cajuns did quite a bit of scoring in the first half, resulting in a 19-0 edge by the break. Louisiana added a couple of touchdowns in the second half, cruising to a 33-6 victory in the end. QB Lunch Winfield was 11-of-21 for 70 yards and a TD while also leading the rush on 15 carries for 65 yards during the victory effort.

Southern Miss Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Southern Miss side, they haven’t had much luck in the win column this year. The good news is that the Eagles were able to start out the season with a victory, taking out Alcorn State 49-3 in the opener. After that came losses to Auburn, UConn, Tulane and Troy in succession however. Through five games the Eagles were just 1-4 overall.

Matched up against Arkansas State last weekend the Eagles were down 13-0 before they could respond on the scoreboard and went into the locker room down 16-7. Things didn’t get much better from there though, and Southern Miss lost 23-13. QB Landry Lyddy was 18-of-34 for 208 yards, one TD and two interceptions for the Eagles in the defeat.

Louisiana vs Southern Miss Prediction

Give me Louisiana I suppose. The Cajuns were pretty solid in their win over Troy, gathering up 351 yards, 23 first downs and a nice 10-of-17 result on third-down tries. Louisiana surrendered 267 yards with 12 first downs and 3-of-12 on third downs defensively so it was a good overall effort and a nice bounce-back after the loss to LA Tech.

As for Southern Miss, they managed 289 yards, 14 first downs and 5-of-14 on third downs in their loss to Arkansas State. The Eagles were good on third downs (4-of-17) themselves but couldn’t get off the field as the Wolves had 40:08 in time of possession. This is going to be another tricky game for Southern Miss.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns -10.5
