Houston Christian was able to claw their way back and force overtime but still ended up losing 30-23 in a tough outcome. Cutter Stewart was 10-of-22 for 96 yards and as score while Maddox Kopp went 9-of-16 for 166 yards and a TD of his own.
North Texas Mean Green Betting Preview
Over on the North Texas side, they had a tough draw in their opener. The Green had to take on Indiana in a road game, and ended up giving up double-digit points in three of four quarters during a 52-16 blowout loss. In game two versus UNLV however, North Texas scored double-digits in three of four quarters themselves during their own blowout win 44-6 at home.
Matched up against Texas State last weekend the Mean Green were all tied up at halftime 28-28 after a wild first half. North Texas was outscored 21-7 the rest of the way however, and ended up losing 49-35 on the road. QB Tayven Jackson was 43-of-57 for 483 yards, three scores and an interception. Brendon Haygood led the rush with 11 carries for 50 yards and a score.

I’ll stick with North Texas but the line’s too thick to mess with. The Mean Green offense put up 565 yards (483 passing), 34 first downs and 10-of-15 on third-down tries in an effort to keep pace with Texas State last weekend. North Texas’ defense gave up 605 yards (337 rushing) on the other side with 8.5 yards per play and 30 first downs, though. The nine team penalties for 91 yards didn’t help the cause at all either.
As for Houston Christian, they managed 378 yards with 5.1 yards per play in their loss versus Incarnate Word. The Huskies had just 15 first downs and 5-of-19 on third downs though, and the defense gave up 28 first downs along the way. Houston Christian did a few good things (like the three takeaways) but they’re going to have to get the offense moving consistently as we go forward.
