East Carolina Pirates Betting Preview

The Pirates have had some mixed results so far this year. East Carolina kicked things off with a couple of losses, one versus Alabama and the other against Appalachian State. East Carolina was able to crawl back to .500 on the year thanks to wins in the next two games though. Those came courtesy of Old Dominion and North Carolina Central for a 2-2 record.

In the Rice matchup last weekend the Pirates fought through a fairly uneventful first half with a 7-3 edge. East Carolina was down briefly in the third but then found their stride in an eventual 28-12 victory. QB Emory Williams was 19-of-31 for 143 yards and two scores. TJ Engleman carried 14 times for 136 yards and a touchdown of his own in the victory effort.

UAB Blazers Betting Preview

Over on the UAB side, they were only able to go 1-2 over their first three games this year. The lone win was on September 12 versus Louisiana-Monroe. Otherwise it was losses to Illinois and Louisiana during that time. UAB managed to beat Navy and Samford in the next two outings though, giving the team a 3-2 record over the first five games of the year.

Matched up against Memphis the Blazers did pretty well in the first half and entered the locker room with a 13-10 edge. UAB gave up four unanswered touchdowns in the second half however, and ended up losing 38-13 in the end. QB Ryder Burton was 10-of-20 for 131 yards and a pick while Rod Robinson had 19 carries for 65 yards in the defeat.

East Carolina vs UAB Prediction

I’ll go with East Carolina. The Pirates took a little while to really get going in their win over Rice last weekend but everything worked out well. ECU had just three penalties and no turnovers in the victory while giving up just 13 first downs and 3-of-15 on third downs alongside two takeaways defensively. East Carolina has now won three straight games and scored 28 or more points in consecutive outings.

As for UAB, they couldn’t hang with a good Memphis team last weekend, going just 3-of-15 on third downs alongside three turnovers. The Blazers allowed 394 yards with 24 first downs on defense without a takeaway in that one. UAB has lost all three of their road games this year, scoring 14 or fewer points in two of them.
