Western Carolina Catamounts Betting Preview
The Catamounts went 3-2 to start the year, taking losses to Cincinnati and Duke in their first two outings. Western Carolina would hit a 1-6 run from there though, falling versus Lipscomb, High Point, USC Upstate, Virginia Tech, Georgia and Wofford. After another much-needed win over Furman in game 13, the Catamounts had a 5-8 overall record in the books to start the season.
In the Samford matchup on Wednesday, Western Carolina was up by four points at halftime. The Catamounts couldn’t keep the pace from there however, getting outscored 48-39 on the way to a tough road loss 82-77. Samuel Dada led the team in the losing effort with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Cord Stansberry added 12 points with one rebound in 26 minutes of work.
Citadel Bulldogs Betting Preview
Over on the Citadel side, they only went 2-3 in their first five games with losses to Boston College, Charleston Southern and West Georgia. The Bulldogs would lose to Bellarmine, Houston Christian, Presbyterian, Davidson, South Carolina, Charleston, Richmond, East Tennessee State and Wofford over the next 10 games, taking their record to a rough 3-12 result in 15 games.
Matched up against Mercer on Wednesday the Bulldogs were blitzed 54-31 in the first half. The Citadel didn’t get any closer than that in the second half, limping to a 101-63 loss after a 47-32 run from there. Logan Applegate put up 16 points and three rebounds while Christian Moore added 12 points and two rebounds. Dante Kearse put up 10 points in 14 minutes of work during the defeat as well.

Western Carolina vs the Citadel Prediction
I’ll go with Western Carolina. The Catamounts couldn’t hang around on the road versus a middling Samford team this week, eventually shooting 41 percent from the field and 22-of-25 (88 percent) from the line. WCU did well on the boards with a 31-24 advantage and had a 34-28 edge on points in the paint but couldn’t overcome the Bulldogs’ 11 made 3-pointers (versus just five of their own). Western Carolina has now lost five of the last six games but they’re scoring pretty well in that stretch.
As for the Citadel, they gave up 58.6 percent shooting from the field, 53.6 percent (15-of-28) from outside and had a 23-16 rebounding deficit in their latest loss to Mercer. The 18 turnovers and 32-22 deficit in the paint didn’t help matters either. That makes six straight losses for the Bulldogs, who have given up 71 or more points in each of those games.
