VMI vs UTSA Prediction

I’ll lean toward VMI I suppose. The Keydets didn’t have too many issues in their opener win versus VA-Lynchburg this week, shooting 48 percent from the field alongside a 56-37 rebounding advantage. VMI led for 98 percent of the game and had a 40-point lead in one spot. In game two versus SMU, the Keydets were outmatched and didn’t play especially well. VMI shot just 29 percent from the field and 24 percent (5-of-21) from 3-point range along with a whopping 19 turnovers. The good news is that the Keydets were competitive on the boards (a 38-36 deficit) and did well at the line (88 percent on 29-of-33).

As for UTSA, they couldn’t take much advantage of a sloppy San Jose State team’s 21 turnovers during their 21-point opener loss this week. The Roadrunners posted 43 percent shooting from the field with 14 of their own turnovers and allowed the Spartans to shoot a red-hot 59 percent from the floor on the other side. UTSA has to get more physical on both ends of the floor for game two, and I don’t think they’ll quite get there cover-wise.

VMI Keydets Betting Preview

The Keydets already have two games in the bag this year. First came the opener match versus Virginia-Lynchburg on Monday. In that game VMI rolled to a 115-83 win in front of nearly 1,000 people at Cameron Hall in Lexington. The Keydets were led by TJ Johnson on 17 points with two rebounds in the win. Alexander Daushvili added 15 points and seven boards, while Rokas Zilys came off the bench for 14 points and three rebounds in 18 minutes of action.

In their second outing of the season on Thursday versus SMU, the Keydets took a pretty sizable loss 95-70 in front of over 3,500 people at Moody Coliseum in Dallas, Texas. Topping the team in that one was TJ Johnson with 19 points and five boards.

UTSA Roadrunners Betting Preview

Over on the UTSA side, they’re coming off a pretty rough campaign in 2025-26. The Roadrunners went just 5-25 overall with an abysmal 1-17 run in the American Conference. Needless to say, that result put UTSA in last place among the standings, five games behind East Carolina. The Roadrunners were mathematically eliminated from the American Conference Tournament by mid-February and finished the season on a five-game losing streak.

This year UTSA opened up the season with a matchup against San Jose State at Provident Credit Union Event Center in San Jose. The Roadrunners ended up losing that one by a fairly large margin 95-74. Tops in scoring was Preston Turner with 15 points and four boards. Shey Eberwein also had 15 points, coming off the bench to contribute four assists, two steals and two rebounds in 19 minutes of action. KJ Tenner chipped in 11 points in the loss as well.
