The Villanova Wildcats and the BYU Cougars meet Monday in college basketball action from the T-Mobile Arena. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Villanova Wildcats vs. BYU Cougars prediction.
Villanova Wildcats Recap
The Villanova Wildcats come into the 2025-26 season under new leadership with Kevin Willard taking over after the disaster that was the Kyle Neptune experience the last three seasons, culminating with a 21-15 record including an 11-9 record in Big East conference play. The Wildcats would knock off Seton Hall in the first round of the Big East Tournament before falling to UConn in the quarterfinals to end the regular season. ‘Nova would get an invite to the inaugural College Basketball Crown tournament, knocking off Colorado and USC before falling to UCF in the semifinals. This is a new look Villanova team, with a lot of the faces of Nova basketball gone from last year, including the likes of Eric Dixon, Wooga Poplar, Jhamir Brickus, Jordan Longino and Enoch Boakye. The Wildcats bring in transfers like Devin Askew (18.9 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 4.5 APG at Long Beach State), Duke Brennan (10.4 PPG, 9.2 RPG at Grand Canyon), Bryce Lindsay (13.4 PPG at JMU) and Zion Stanford (13.1 PPG at Temple). Time will tell if Kevin Willard can bring it all together and get the job done in year one for the Wildcats.
BYU Cougars Recap
The BYU Cougars enter the 2025-26 season looking to add on to their 26-10 record in 2024-25, including a 14-6 mark in Big 12 conference play. BYU would knock off Iowa State before falling to Houston in the tournament semifinals. BYU would get an invite to the NCAA tournament, taking out VCU and Wisconsin before falling in the Sweet 16 to Alabama. There’s a fair amount of turnover for BYU, including losing a lottery pick in Egor Demin, as well as cornerstones like Dallin Hall, Trevin Knell, Mawot Mag, Kanon Catchings and Fousseyni Traore. Enter AJ Dybantsa, the #1 overall recruit, and he’ll have some solid help out of the gate with the return of Richie Saunders (16.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG) as well as Keba Keita (7.4 PPG, 7.9 RPG). Robert Wright III transfers in from Baylor after logging 11.5 PPG and 4.2 APG while Kennard Davis had 16.3 PPG with 4.9 RPG and 2.6 APG. There’s national championship caliber talent here at BYU and Young could be in a really good position in March if it comes to fruition.
Villanova Wildcats vs. BYU Cougars Prediction
I’m on BYU here. I think the talent for the Cougars is legit, and we’re used to seeing Villanova schedule down to start the year the last few seasons but this is a real test for Kevin Willard to see where his team is at coming into the year against true competition. I have BYU as a potential final four team and I think on opening night the Cougars show out here to put their name on the lips of everyone in the country. Give me BYU here.
