UNLV Rebels Betting Preview

The Rebels have had a pretty erratic season so far this year, but they’ve been able to keep their heads above the .500 mark thus far. UNLV opened with a 4-1 stretch featuring wins over Alabama State, Omaha, Pepperdine, and New Mexico State. A 1-4 run came next with losses to Mississippi State, Northwestern, Creighton, and Dayton amid a lone win over Pacific. In their 6-2 run which came afterward, UNLV lost to Boise State and Colorado with wins otherwise versus UC Riverside, Fresno State, Air Force, San Jose State, Utah State, and San Diego State. The most recent two games have both been losses, however. UNLV has fallen to Wyoming and New Mexico for an 11-9 overall run through the first 20 games of the year so far.

In the New Mexico game over the weekend, the Rebels held a 39-39 tie at the break. UNLV was outscored 36-34 the rest of the way however, eventually losing a tough one 75-73 at home. Tops in scoring was Dedan Thomas with 18 points and seven assists in 39 minutes. The only other team player in double-figures was Julian Rishwain with 16 points and three boards.

Utah State Aggies Betting Preview

Over on the Utah State side, they’ve been doing great so far this year and are one of the most consistent teams in the nation when it comes to putting up Ws. The Aggies took out Alcorn State, Charlotte, Westminster UT, Montana, Iowa, St. Bonaventure, North Texas, Wyoming, Utah Tech, and South Florida before their first loss to UC San Diego on December 17. After that came wins over Saint Mary’s, San Diego State, Nevada, Fresno State, San Jose State, and Boise State, and then another loss to UNLV. Since then the Aggies have beaten Nevada and Air Force for an 18-2 run through the first 20 games of the year.

Matched up against Air Force in their weekend game, the Aggies held a 42-33 edge by the break. Utah State got even better from there, powering out a 45-25 second half in an 87-58 blowout victory. leading team scorer Ian Martinez finished with 16 points in 21 minutes. Isaac Johnson added 12 points and four rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench, and Mason Falslev had 11 points with eight rebounds and five assists.

I’ll lean toward Utah State, however, I could easily go either way. We should have a great matchup overall, and the line’s thick enough to entertain the Rebels as well. The Aggies blew right past a struggling Air Force team in their last outing, amassing a nice 53.8 percent shooting from the floor and a whopping 26 points off 16 Falcons turnovers. Utah State has scored a combined 177 points in their last two games, and they’ve held their outmatched opponents below 70 points in both of those as well.

The last time these teams saw each other was during a tense 65-62 home win for the Rebels back on January 15. Utah State was out-rebounded 37-34 in that one and didn’t shoot all that well (41.5 percent). The 12 turnovers for 11 UNLV points were what really hurt in the end, though. During this rematch I like Utah State to get a little revenge, but it should be a fun one to watch regardless of what happens.
