Texas A&M Aggies Betting Preview

Back at the end of January, the Aggies were sitting at a pretty solid 17-4 overall. Next came losses to Alabama, Florida, Missouri and Vanderbilt though, ahead of wins over Ole Miss and Oklahoma. Texas A&M closed out the regular season on a 2-2 run with losses to Arkansas and Texas, then fell to Oklahoma in their first game of the conference tournament last week for a 21-11 overall record.

In the Oklahoma matchup during the SEC Tournament, the Aggies got demolished over the first half with a 49-27 deficit. Texas A&M didn’t make much progress in the second half on a 36-34 deficit and limped to a relative blowout loss 83-63 as the game wound down. Both Rashaun Agee (10 rebounds; two assists) and Rylan Griffen (two assists) each scored 13 points for a team-high.

Saint Mary’s Gaels Betting Preview

Over on the Gaels’ side, they were 17-2 over their first 19 games back in mid-January. Saint Marys’ would go 2-2 over the next four with losses to Santa Clara and Gonzaga, then beat San Diego, San Francisco, Pepperdine, Pacific, Seattle, Washington State, Santa Clara and Gonzaga. Next came an unfortunate conference tournament loss to Santa Clara, however.

Matched up against the Broncos in their opening game of the West Coast Conference Tournament way back on March 9, the Gaels held a three-point edge 35-32 as the came back out onto the court for the second half. Saint Mary’s was outscored 44-36 the rest of the way and ended up falling 76-71. Paulius Murauskas was tops on 26 points with eight rebounds while Mikey Lewis added 23 points with three rebounds and two assists.

Texas A&M vs Saint Mary’s Prediction

I’ll lean toward Saint Mary’s but you could call this one either way. The Gaels had a bad second half in their loss to Santa Clara, posting 10 turnovers with a 32-22 deficit on points in the paint and 48.4 percent shooting surrendered on defense. Otherwise Saint Mary’s didn’t play too badly though, with 44.4 percent shooting from the field and a 37-28 rebounding advantage. The Gaels are still 8-1 in their last nine games but they’ve only taken the court once during the entire month of March so far.

As for Texas A&M, they didn’t shoot very well in the loss to Oklahoma with 38.3 percent from the field and 60 percent (9-of-15) from outside. The Aggies were out-rebounded 45-31 and outscored in the paint 42-30. Texas A&M is just 4-7 over their last 11 games, but to be fair they’ve seen some tough teams in that time. This one will be in Texas A&M’s wheelhouse if they play well.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Saint Mary's Gaels -3.5
