Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders Betting Preview

The Islanders’ season didn’t start off so well. Texas A&M-CC hit a 1-3 opening in their first four games, beating Dallas Christian while falling otherwise versus Purdue, New Mexico, and New Mexico State. Texas A&M-CC hit a four-game win streak after that however, taking out TN-Martin, Le Moyne, Texas Lutheran, and Prairie View A&M. Since then it’s been alternating wins and losses over six games. The victories have come courtesy of Stephen F. Austin, Southwestern Adventist, and Schreiner. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Lamar, Hawaii, and Houston in that stretch of games for an 8-6 run overall.

In the Schreiner game back on Sunday, the Islanders came out of the break with a dominant 56-21 edge. Texas A&M-CC hit a 47-23 stretch the rest of the way in a 103-44 blowout victory. Leading the team in scoring was Jordan Roberts with 19 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Garry Clark added 13 points with nine rebounds and Damarion Dennis had 12 points as well. Dian Wright-Forde had 14 points and four assists off the bench, while Sheldon Williams doubled on 13 points and 13 boards. Kam Parker added 13 bench points as well.

Southeastern Louisiana Lions Betting Preview

Over on the Southeastern Louisiana side, they came out of the gate this year on a 2-4 run over their first six games. The Lions beat only William Carey and Louisiana-Monroe in that time. Otherwise, it was losses to UAB, Mississippi State, Wyoming, and Gardner-Webb. Following two wins over North Dakota and Tulane, the Lions fell to Nicholls and Louisiana. Two more wins came after that versus Grambling and New Orleans before another loss to McNeese.

Matched up against McNeese in the December 30 game, the Lions were looking at a 14-point deficit by halftime. Southeastern Louisiana didn’t get any closer than that on a 45-31 second half and ended up falling 79-51 by the finish. Tops in scoring with 11 points each were Sam Hines (six rebounds) and Kam Burton (three rebounds; three steals). Jaiden Lawrence led the team off the bench with nine points and two rebounds in the blowout defeat.

I’ll probably just stay with Texas A&M-CC here. There’s not a lot to get excited about in this matchup if you’re not a fan of either team, but it should be a decent matchup. The Islanders didn’t have too many issues against an overmatched opponent in their last outing. Texas A&M posted 55.4 percent shooting from the field in that one with 40 percent (8-of-20) from outside, 49 rebounds, 21 team assists, and 10 turnovers. The 26 Schreiner turnovers for 43 points didn’t hurt matters, either.

Texas A&M-CC has been quite erratic lately. They’ve scored fewer than 63 points in each of their last three losses and a combined 220 over their last two wins. As for Southeastern Louisiana, they’ve been below 65 points in three straight losses. If the Islanders can clamp down on defense and manage the tempo well here, they’ll be fine on a cover.
