San Francisco Dons Betting Preview

The Dons have been quite the consistent team this year, with only a couple of brief runs of spotty play. San Francisco took their only consecutive losses (so far) in late November versus Memphis and Clemson, then rattled off wins over Fordham, Mercyhurst, Saint Louis, Stanislaus State, and Loyola Chicago before another loss to Bradley. Next came a 7-3 run over 10 games with losses to Washington State, Santa Clara, and Saint Mary’s mixed among wins over Montana, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, Pacific, Portland, Pepperdine, and Oregon State. Since then it’s been four straight wins as the Dons have dispatched San Diego, Washington State, Saint Mary’s, and Loyola Marymount. That gives San Francisco a 20-6 overall run through their first 26 games of the 2024-25 season.

In the LMU matchup on the road Saturday, the Dons came out of the locker room with a 36-28 edge. San Francisco was outscored 38-36 from there but held on for the win in the end 72-66. Leading the team in scoring during the victory was Marcus Williams with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Ryan Beasley came off the bench for 18 points, three rebounds, and one assist in 25 minutes of work on the floor.

Gonzaga Bulldogs Betting Preview

Over on the Gonzaga side, they’ve been a steady team in the record column so far this year as well. The Bulldogs opened on a 7-3 run with wins over Baylor, Arizona State, UMass Lowell, San Diego State, Long Beach State, Indiana, and Davidson. A nice 7-1 run came next with a lone loss to UCLA amid wins over Nicholls, Bucknell, Pepperdine, Portland, Loyola Marymount, San Diego, and Washington State. Since then it’s been a 4-3 stretch with losses to Oregon State, Santa Clara, and Saint Mary’s mixed with wins over Portland, Oregon State, Loyola Marymount, and Pacific. The result so far has been an 18-7 overall run for the Bulldogs through their first 25 games of the season.

Matched up against Pacific on Saturday, the Bulldogs posted a 35-20 advantage in the first half. Gonzaga kept it rolling from there on a 43-41 run and took the win in the end 78-61. Braden Huff came off the bench to lead the team on 17 points with two assists in 21 minutes of action. Topping the starters was Khalif Battle with his 16 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 23 minutes of work.

Why the Gonzaga Bulldogs will win

  • Gonzaga has won 99 of its last 103 games at McCarthey Athletic Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Why the San Francisco Dons will win

  • San Francisco has won 10 of its last 11 night games against the West Coast Conference.

San Francisco vs Gonzaga Prediction

I was going to stay with Gonzaga, but the line seems thick enough for San Francisco to get in there. This should be a pretty fun matchup, though. The Bulldogs didn’t have a ton of issues with a struggling Pacific team in their last outing, taking the road win thanks to 12 points off 15 Tigers turnovers and a nice 23-of-26 (88.5 percent) from the line. Gonzaga has hit 73 or more points in 11 of their last 12 games now, posting a 9-3 record during that time.

As for San Francisco, they didn’t shoot well (38.9 percent) in their latest win over LMU and surrendered 52.2 percent on the other side. The Dons powered out the win thanks to 21 points off 18 turnovers, though. San Francisco won’t be able to rely on too many mistakes this time, but I think the line is generous enough that they can ultimately eke one out here.

Andrew Jett's Pick: San Francisco Dons +13.5
