Quinnipiac Bobcats Betting Preview

Quinnipiac had a pretty good-looking season last year record-wise, on paper at least. That said, the Bobcats’ campaign still ended in disappointment. Quinnipiac ended up going 20-13 overall with a 15-5 MAAC record. That mark would put the team atop the conference standings as regular-season champs, but it would fail to live up to the 24-10 run of the 2023-24 season. The Bobcats lost two of their final three games to close out the regular season, then beat Rider in the first round of the MAAC Tournament. On March 14 in the semifinals versus Iona however, Quinnipiac took an 81-73 loss to finish off their campaign for good.

Looking ahead to the 2025-26 run, the Bobcats do retain a couple of starters from last year’s squad—and they’ll be under head coach Tom Pecora once again. The goal for the regular season will be to finish in first place among the conference once again. If Quinnipiac can do it, they’ll be the first MAAC team to win three straight outright regular-season championships. What would be even better however, is if the Bobcats can make the first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. Returning MAAC Player of the Year Amarri Monroe (18.1 PPG) will be a major contributor if that happens.

St. John’s Red Storm Betting Preview

Over on the St. John’s side, they managed a pretty nice run themselves last year. The Red Storm posted a 31-5 overall record with an 18-2 stretch in the Big East. That would put St. John’s atop the conference standings, three games ahead of second-place Creighton. The Storm managed to win the Big East Tournament championship with wins over Butler, Marquette and Creighton, then took out Omaha in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. In the Second Round versus Arkansas however, St. John’s took a 75-66 loss in the end.

Moving ahead to this year, the Red Storm will have some even higher expectations in head coach Rick Pitino’s second season—and they won’t be sneaking up on anyone this time. St. John’s will lose the talents of RJ Luis, Kadary Richmond, Aaron Scott and Simeon Wilcher, among a handful of other contributors off the bench. That said, Pitino has managed to assemble a nice-looking roster through the transfer portal and St. John’s seems reloaded for another good run in the record columns this season.

Quinnipiac vs St. John’s Prediction

I’m going to take a stab on Quinnipiac. You could make a case either way here, though. The Bobcats have a great shot at returning to the top of the conference standings and maybe—just maybe—bagging their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history. It’s now or never for Quinnipiac, as they’ve got a talented enough roster to make those dreams happen. I like the team to start strong with a decent showing here.

As for St. John’s, they’ve managed to return to relevancy on the national stage in a fairly short period of time. The Red Storm have some tricky games on the schedule this year—including Alabama, Ole Miss and Kentucky as part of an SEC swing—so they’ll be in the headlines a lot.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Quinnipiac Bobcats +24.5
