The Florida Atlantic Owls and the Memphis Tigers will meet on Sunday in an American Athletic Conference matchup at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena in Boca Raton, Florida.

Memphis Tigers Betting Preview

The Memphis Tigers enter Sunday’s contest with a 7–7 overall record and a 2–0 mark in conference play and 1-3 record on the road, riding a three‑game winning streak after victories over North Texas, Alabama State and the Rice Owls. The Tigers have lost games to Minnesota, Mississippi State and the Purdue Boilermakers. Earlier this week, in the Memphis Tigers 76–70 win over Rice, Memphis guard Dug McDaniel tallied 18 points (5 of 10 shooting from the field), 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals illustrating his ability to lead the Tigers backcourt.

The Memphis Tigers average 74.1 points on 43.1 percent shooting from the field and 31.8 shooting from three-point range per game. Defensively, the Memphis Tigers are allowing opponents 73.2 points per game.

Senior guard Dug McDaniel leads the Memphis Tigers averaging 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.3 steals on 38.5 percent shooting from the field and 35.9 percent from the three-point line per game. Senior guard Sincere Parker provides the Tigers with further depth in the backcourt averaging 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.6 steals per contest.

Florida Atlantic Owls Betting Preview

The Florida Atlantic Owls enter Sunday afternoon’s contest with a 10–6 record, including a 2-1 mark in conference play and a rather impressive 6–1 record at home this season. The Owls have compiled wins over Albany, Saint Louis and the Loyola Marymount Lions, while dropping games to Tulane, UCF and Saint Mary’s. In the Florida Atlantic Owls 88–75 loss to Saint Mary’s last month, Florida Atlantic guard Isaiah Elohim tallied 15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals showcasing his ability to play a high level.

The Florida Atlantic Owls average 80.4 points on 46.2 percent shooting from the field and 35.7 percent shooting from behind the arc per game. On the defensive side of the basketball, the Owls are allowing opponents 74.9 points per contest.

Sophomore guard Darin Vanterpool leads the Florida Atlantic Owls averaging 16.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals on 46.9 percent shooting from the field per game. Junior guard Kanaan Carlyle averages 15.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.2 steals per contest. Sophomore forward Devin Williams adds 7.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 2.8 blocks per game giving the Owls a strong defensive anchor in the frontcourt.

Why the Memphis Tigers will win

•             Quality guard play. Senior guard Dug McDaniel leads the Memphis Tigers averaging 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.3 steals on 38.5 percent shooting from the field and 35.9 percent from the three-point line per game.

•             Recent momentum. The Memphis Tigers have won three straight games, including a 76-71 win over UAB three days ago.

Why the Florida Atlantic Owls will win

•             Backcourt play. Sophomore guard Darin Vanterpool leads the Florida Atlantic Owls averaging 16.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals on 46.9 percent shooting from the field per game.

•             Offensive edge. The Florida Atlantic Owls average 80.4 points per game. Conversely, the Memphis Tigers are averaging 74.1 points per contest.

•             Home court edge. The Florida Atlantic Owls are 6-2 at home this season.

Memphis Tigers vs. Florida Atlantic Owls Prediction

In my view, Florida Atlantic’s home court edge, offensive balance, and scoring efficiency give them the advantage in this matchup. The Memphis Tigers recent improvement (Tigers have won straight game) and defensive pressure should keep them competitive, but the Florida Atlantic Owls are the more reliable side to be on in this matchup. For the reasons just noted, I am backing the Florida Atlantic Owls to win this game.
