Marquette Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Marquette has remained a highly consistent team so far this year; they’ve only got one spotty three-game stretch in the books. The Golden Eagles opened up with eight straight victories over Stony Brook, George Mason, Central Michigan, Maryland, Purdue, Georgia, Stonehill, and Western Carolina. A 1-2 run commenced after that, with a win over Wisconsin sandwiched between losses to Iowa State and Dayton. Marquette has gotten back on track nicely since then, taking five straight victories over Butler, Xavier, Providence, Creighton, and Georgetown in succession for a 14-2 overall record so far this season.

In the Georgetown matchup back on January 7, the Golden Eagles entered the break with a 38-29 deficit and things were looking grim. Marquette fought back with a 45-28 run in the second half however, taking the comeback victory in the end 74-66. Tops in scoring was Chase Ross, with 27 points, three rebounds, six steals and two assists to his credit. Stevie Mitchell added 13 points with five rebounds and three steals, while David Joplin put up 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes of work during the win.

DePaul Blue Demons Betting Preview

Over on the DePaul side, they started out the 2024-25 season on an excellent run, but they’ve since hit the skids on a pretty tough stretch. The Blue Demons beat Southern Indiana, Prairie View, Mercer, Duquesne, Eastern Illinois, Northern Illinois, and Valparaiso during a nice 7-0 start, then hit a 2-4 stretch. The wins at that time were over only Wichita State and Loyola, MD; otherwise, losses were made to Texas Tech, Providence, St. John’s, and Northwestern. Since then DePaul has lost four straight outings. Those losses have come in succession versus UConn, Villanova, Seton Hall, and Xavier for a 9-8 overall run this year.

Matched up against Xavier on Saturday, the Blue Demons held a 38-23 deficit in the locker room at the break. I’m staying with Marquette. The Golden Eagles didn’t shoot very well (35.6 percent) or rebound very well (a 38-32 deficit) in their comeback win versus a pretty good Georgetown team, but they did take advantage of 19 Hoyas turnovers with 20 points. Marquette has normally been better on offense than that; they’ve got 72 or more points in five straight games (all wins).

As for DePaul, they shot a tepid 39.3 percent from the field with a 36-28 rebounding deficit and 12 turnovers in their latest defeat. The Demons have been below 69 points in three of the last four while giving up 77 or more points in each of those games (all losses). Marquette should have plenty of room on offense here and should cover if they can take advantage.
