Jackson State Tigers Betting Preview
The Tigers’ season opened on a pretty miserable and winless run. Jackson State finally started experiencing some success in the record column after the turn of the new calendar year, however. The Tigers would fall to Houston, High Point, Xavier, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Saint Louis, Arkansas State, Iowa State, UTEP, Akron, and Cal Baptist over their first 13 games of the year. Once January hit, Jackson State recorded victories over Alcorn State, Alabama State, and Alabama A&M in succession for a 3-13 overall record through their first 16 outings of the 2024-25 campaign.
In the Prairie View matchup on Saturday, the Tigers were able to keep their run going. Jackson State went into the locker room with a 36-26 edge, then kept the pace well from there on 43 more points for a 79-70 win in the end. Leading team scorer Daeshun Ruffin posted 26 points with three rebounds and two assists. Keiveon Hunt came off the bench to add 14 points with two rebounds and two assists, while Shannon Grant had 11 points with five rebounds.
Texas Southern Tigers Betting Preview
Over on the (other) Tigers’ side, they posted a rough record through their first dozen games as well but similarly have looked better as of late. Texas Southern fell to Xavier, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Samford, New Mexico, Texas State, Sam Houston, Nevada, Boise State, and Abilene Christian in a 2-10 start over their first dozen outings. The only wins otherwise in that time were versus Texas A&M-San Antonio and Texas A&M-Kingsville. Over the next quartet of games, however, the Tigers notched a 3-1 run with a lone loss to Southern. Otherwise, it was wins over the College of Biblical Studies, Grambling, and Mississippi Valley State, giving Texas Southern a 5-11 record through the first 16 games of the year.
Matched up against Alcorn State over the weekend, Texas Southern jumped out to a dominant 34-12 edge by halftime. The Tigers were outscored 45-32 the rest of the way but still had a win in the end 66-57. Leading the team in scoring was Zaire Hayes with 16 points and four steals. Jaylen Wysinger came off the bench to contribute 11 points, two rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Duane Posey chipped in 10 points and a couple of boards.

Jackson State vs Texas Southern Prediction
I’ll stick with the Tigers. More specifically, the Jackson State Tigers. This should be a pretty good matchup though, and you could call it either way. Both teams are doing better lately and coming off wins versus struggling teams. Texas Southern shot a nice 46.6 percent from the field in their victory over Alcorn State, but there’s plenty of room for improvement. The Tigers went just 2-of-16 (12.5 percent) from 3-point range in that one and got outmuscled on the boards 39-27. Still, this current 4-1 stretch has been promising.
As for the other Tigers in this matchup, they had a dominant 40-23 advantage on the boards over Prairie View A&M in their last game. Jackson State has posted 72 or more points in four straight wins, and another performance on the glass like that would really throw a wrench into Texas Southern’s game plan.
