IUPUI Jaguars Betting Preview
IUPUI wasn’t playing terribly early on this year, but they’ve been unable to string together consecutive wins since early December. The Jags beat IU Columbus, Goshen, Alabama A&M, Trinity Christian IL, and Green Bay in their first 10 games. Next came a losing streak versus Northern Kentucky, Fort Wayne, Lindenwood, FIU, Milwaukee, Youngstown State, and Cleveland State before another win over Detroit. Since then it’s been a 2-7 run for the Jaguars. The wins have come versus Green Bay and Youngstown State in that time. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Oakland, Cleveland State, Fort Wayne, Robert Morris, Milwaukee, Wright State, and Oakland in that time, giving IUPUI an 8-19 overall run through the first 27 games of the year.Â
In the Oakland matchup last Wednesday, the Jaguars were facing a six-point deficit by the break. IUPUI was outscored 40-33 the rest of the way in an 82-67 loss. Jarvis Walker led the way with 26 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 37 minutes of work during the loss. Paul Zilinskas added 14 points with two assists, and Sean Craig had 10 points.Â
Detroit Titans Betting Preview
Over on the Titans’ side, they’ve had trouble stringing together wins this year as well. Detroit also went 5-5 in their first 10 outings, beating Cleary U, Niagara, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, and Fort Wayne in that time. The Titans hit a 1-11 run over the next 12, taking losses to Wright State, Davidson, Northern Kentucky, Wisconsin, Youngstown State, Milwaukee, IUPUI, Fort Wayne, Oakland, Cleveland State, and Wright State. After wins over Northern Kentucky and Green Bay, the Titans have since fallen to Robert Morris, Youngstown State, and Oakland. That gives Detroit an 8-19 record through their first 27 games overall.Â
Matched up against Oakland on Sunday, the Titans were up 42-40 at the break. Detroit ended up having to go to overtime though, where they ultimately lost 93-83. Orlando Lovejoy was the top team scorer with 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Both Legend Geeter and Nate Johnson had 15 points each with a combined 13 rebounds and eight assists, while Mak Manciel had 13 points and two assists off the bench.Â

IUPUI vs Detroit Prediction
I’ll probably just stay with IUPUI here, but there’s not a lot to get excited about if you’re not a fan of either team. The Jaguars are coming off a rough loss to a middling Oakland team in a home matchup, shooting just 33.8 percent from the field and 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) from the line. IUPUI gave up 54.7 percent shooting on the other side. That makes a 1-3 run in the last four games for the Jags, but they’ve scored 73 or more points in three of those.Â
On January 9 when these teams last met, IUPUI posted a 95-61 blowout win at home. The Jaguars played strong the whole game and took full advantage of 16 Titans turnovers with 24 points as a result. In this road rematch, IUPUI probably won’t dominate so fully, but I still think they’ll power one out. I’m probably avoiding this one though, as I could easily envision Detroit finding some life and dispatching the Jaguars in a much-needed home victory.Â
