Drexel vs Virginia Prediction

I’ll probably stick with Virginia here I suppose. Probably not touching it, though. The Cavs only lost a couple of starters from last year’s squad and they’re putting a team on the court that’s insanely deep. There will be plenty of battles for playing time as we get a look at all the key contributors. Virginia has a tough schedule ahead with games versus Arkansas, UConn and Kentucky upcoming. With a bit of development and some good luck with injuries however, the Cavaliers should be primed for another NCAA Tournament run. This Drexel game is a good one to start with as the team gets warmed up for the journey ahead.

As for Drexel, they have a pretty good-looking roster in tow this season and could continue to surpass some modest preseason expectations. The Dragons will have to replicate their defensive prowess from last year if they want to survive a pretty tricky schedule; Drexel has games against Virginia, Pitt, Saint Joseph’s and Penn coming. We’ll get a better idea as to the Dragons’ potential fortunes after a couple of those.

Drexel Dragons Betting Preview

The Dragons had what could be categorized as a middling season in 2025-26. Drexel managed a winning record though, going 17-16 overall with a 10-8 run in Coastal Athletic Association games. With that result the Dragons landed behind UNC Wilmington, Charleston, Hofstra and Monmouth in the standings. After finishing off the regular season on a 3-1 stretch, Drexel beat Northeastern in the first game of the CAA Tournament. The Dragons’ season ended with a loss to Monmouth in the quarterfinals, though.

This season the Dragons will have Zach Spiker back for his 11th season as head coach. He will attempt to outperform preseason poll expectations for a fifth year in a row while retaining just one starter from last season’s squad. A couple of potentially key players on the roster include junior Josh Reed (7.9 PPG) and Dillon Tingler (3.6 PPG), who were solidly in the rotations most of last year.

Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview

Over on the Virginia side, they had a pretty successful year in a tough conference last year but didn’t get quite as far in the national tourney as they would have liked. The Cavaliers went 30-6 overall with a 15-3 run in Atlantic Coast Conference matchups. Virginia finished behind only Duke in the standings with that result. In the conference tournament the Cavs beat NC State and Miami before falling to Duke in the final, then beat Wright State in the NCAA Tournament. In the Second Round versus Tennessee however, Virginia fell 79-72.

Moving ahead to 2026-27, Virginia’s Ryan Odom will be entering his second year with a little more wisdom and experience. His position is secure through the 2031-32 season, so Odom will be a familiar fixture around the team for quite some time. He’ll lose a couple key guys from last year though, namely Malik Thomas and Dallin Hall. Ugonna Onyenso (6.5 PPG) and Jacari White (9.4 PPG) have departed as well.
