Denver Pioneers Betting Preview

The Pioneers took a step back in the 2024-25 campaign, failing to equal the 17-17 run from the season before. Denver would ultimately end up at 11-21 overall and 5-11 in Summit League games. That effort would give the team a finish in the standings ahead of only Kansas City and Oral Roberts. The Pioneers went 3-2 over their final five games of the season, taking out North Dakota, Oral Roberts and South Dakota State in that time. In the first outing of the Summit League Tournament, the Pioneers fell to St. Thomas 80-62 to end their campaign for good.

This year Denver has one game under their belt already, taking on Seattle in the Monday slate. The Pioneers were trailing 42-37 by the break and didn’t end up getting any closer on a 42-36 second half in an 84-73 loss. Leading the scorers in the losing effort was Jeremiah Burke with 21 points and nine boards. Carson Johnson added 18 points and three rebounds, while Logan Kinsey chipped in with 15 points and five rebounds in 27 minutes of work on the court.

Washington Huskies Betting Preview

Over on the Washington side, they also slipped a bit in last season’s campaign. The Huskies failed to equal their 17-15 run from 2023-24, going just 13-18 overall with an ugly 4-16 run in a tough, crowded Big Ten Conference. Washington finished in the basement of the standings with that effort, two games behind Penn State at 6-14. The Huskies ended their season on a six-game skid, falling to Rutgers, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, USC and Oregon in succession during that time. They failed to qualify for the conference tournament.

The Huskies also have one game in the bag this year. They took on Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Monday’s action and cruised to a 41-18 first-half advantage. Washington scored another 53 points from there on the way to a 94-50 blowout win at home. Hannes Steinbach topped the scorers with 21 points, six assists and seven rebounds while Bryson Tucker doubled up on 12 points with 10 boards in 29 minutes of work. Wesley Yates (four rebounds) and Zoom Diallo (five rebounds) each scored 14 points as well.

Denver vs Washington Prediction

I’ll probably just stay with Washington. The Huskies didn’t have too may issues with an overmatched Arkansas-Pine Bluff team in their first action of the season on Monday. Washington held the Lions to just 25.4 percent shooting from the field and had a 49-27 rebounding edge. The Huskies shot 49.2 percent with 21 team assists themselves, but did get a bit sloppy at times with 14 turnovers. Still, the 36-12 advantage in the paint covered up what few mistakes there were. Washington looked good in their first outing, but it’ll get a lot tougher from here.

As for Denver, they couldn’t quite keep pace with Seattle in their first game. The Pioneers looked good on the boards (36) and at the line (23-of-28) but also got drilled in the paint with a 32-16 deficit. The 18 turnovers didn’t help either. Washington is going to press the issue up front and I like the Huskies to cover as a result.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Washington Huskies -27.5
