The Griffins started out the year on a skid, going 0-3 through their first trio of outings. The opener was a 93-64 blowout loss to a great Arizona team, then came an 87-78 loss to St. Bonaventure. Game three was another loss 62-52 versus Mercyhurst.

In Saturday’s game versus SIU Edwardsville, Canisius was outscored badly 43-27 in the first half, then posted a 33-31 second-half deficit in a 76-58 loss. Paul McMillan posted 18 points with three rebounds and two assists to lead the team in the defeat. Canisius will meet Maryland and Brown after this game.

Western Michigan Broncos Betting Preview

Over on the Western Michigan side, they took a loss in their opener as well. The Broncos fell in that one 60-56 versus Coastal Carolina, but bounced back for an 86-46 win over Davenport. Game three was another loss, this time 85-65 against Butler.

Matched up against SIU Edwardsville on Friday, the Broncos were outscored 43-29 in the first half. Western Michigan didn’t make any progress from there on a 36-31 second and lost 79-60. Lead scorer Owen Lobsinger had 16 points with four rebounds in the losing effort.

I’ll probably lean toward Canisius. It’s a coin flip, though; I could see this one going either way. The Griffins took another rough loss on Saturday, posting a tepid 40 percent shooting with a 38-27 deficit on the boards and 14 turnovers. That makes a combined 112 points in the last two outings for Canisius. They’ve got to find more offense—and rebounding, for that matter.

As for Western Michigan, they had a pretty rough showing against SIU Edwardsville on Friday. The Broncos shot just 29.6 percent from the floor and 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from outside in a 19-point loss with just two team assists. It would take a bounce-back effort here for a cover, but against a winless Griffins team, it’s possible. Realistically I’m likely not touching this one.
