Appalachian State Mountaineers Betting Preview
App State kicked off the year on a 4-2 run with wins over Carolina U, NC Central, Dartmouth and Charlotte alongside a pair of losses versus Central Michigan and Ohio State. Since then it’s been a 1-3 run however, with a lone win over Virginia Lynchburg coming after three straight losses versus Elon, Mercer and UNC Asheville. The Mountaineers now stand at 5-5 overall across their first 10 games this year.
In the VA-Lynchburg game last Wednesday, the Mountaineers were up comfortably 62-21 by the break. App State hit a 71-24 run the rest of the way and took the blowout win 133-45 in the end. Tops in scoring was Jacari Brim with 20 points, eight assists and five boards. Michael Marcus doubled up on 19 points and 12 boards, as did Andrin Njock with 19 points and 16 rebounds in the win.
East Carolina Pirates Betting Preview
Over on the East Carolina side, they opened up the year at 2-1 with wins over Georgia Southern and Elizabeth City State around a loss to Richmond. Since then it’s been a 1-5 run with a lone win over Maryland Eastern Shore amid losses to UNC Wilmington, Charleston Southern, Michigan State, Saint Bonaventure and UNC Greensboro. That gives the Pirates a 3-6 overall record in nine games this year so far.
In the UNC Greensboro game over the weekend, the Pirates were outscored 41-33 in the first half and couldn’t make up the difference in an eventual loss 82-78. Tops in scoring was Jordan Riley with 25 points, nine boards and three assists. Giovanni Emejuru was the only other team player to finish in double-digits, notching 15 points with 12 rebounds in 36 minutes for a double-double during the losing effort.

App State vs East Carolina Prediction
I’ll stick with App State. The Mountaineers demolished an overmatched Virginia-Lynchburg team in their last outing, shooting a cool 58.4 percent from the field with a ridiculous 77-12 advantage on the boards and a 76-22 edge on points in the paint. App State wasn’t great from the line (15-of-26 for 57.7 percent) but that’s about the only thing to complain about in the much-needed blowout victory. App State had finished below 68 points in four straight games prior to that.
As for ECU, they lost to a struggling UNC Greensboro team over the weekend thanks to a tepid 6-of-24 (25 percent) from outside, 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) from the line and 13 turnovers. ECU had been below 69 points in five straight games prior to that (a 1-4 run) however, so the 78 points were a small victory. I don’t see them sticking very close to App State, though.
